Strong flavor, good nic hit but harsh...very harsh...at times. I seldom get rid of tobacco but I got rid of the Tambo. I like the flavor and the nic hit but simply didn't like it because of that harshness.
My Tambo was in the "stick" form. Dry as dust and rock hard...looked and felt like a tree branch...and has to be steamed to soften and peel away the leaves and then cut while moist. A pain in the patoot.

What Tambolaka lacks in compexity it makes up for in strength. It's similar to G&H Dark Flake but less refined. It comes very dry in the sticks, too. It's a once-in-a-while thing for me, at best. Meh. :|

Had a brother send me a sample to try, was quite strong. as the old saying goes, That'll put hair on your chest !

Too strong for me but always good to try new things.

This is an unusual tobacco. Had to experiment a lot with humidity levels until I found the flavor I liked, which is somewhat sweet with earthy nose (not quite, but I don't know what else to call it). It is strong in vitamin N and produces a lot of smoke. It's good for an occasional smoke and the 100g pack lasted me for almost one year. I won't buy it again, but I recommend everyone that likes a powerful smoke to try it. It is a different tobacco and you never know...

After trying this tobacco, I have to agree with what has been said so far. The tobacco was very dry, and the strength was through the roof.

I am not going to wirte it off just yet, I think I will experiment with rehydrating it slightly to see if I can get some more flavor as Wet Dottle suggested.

.........wish i had read this thread beforehand........

.......i guess i'll be mixing it with other tabaccos to make it a bit more smokable....

It's an acquired taste; a former student of mine enjoyed it, and was gifted with the rest of my package.  Of course, he thought Black XX and 5 Brothers were everyday smokes, too

.....i looked at the Black XX and Brown No. 4..........

........instead i went for the Tambolaka........

........my next venture might be to delve into the Gawith ropes...
......it reminds me of a time when men were men......and didn't smoke aromatics.....

.........like i do........ :D

RE: GH & SG Ropes, if you like rum tobacco, you might consider one of the rum-ropes!

.......... that sounds like a great next tobacco to try.....

.............the ropes really intrigue me...

......have you tried the Gawith Hoggarth Sweet Coconut Twist Rope?

I've only tried about 6 ropes/pigtails; I liked SG Brown Rope #4 and GH Sweet Pigtail and Sweet Rum Pigtail.  As for Coconut Twist, I just dislike coconut in any form, so haven't tried any coconut tobacco

Leonidas...I've had the sweet coconut twist. It's really not bad it's unusual yes but not bad. If you like the smell of coconut you'll be fine. It's not there all through the smoke but most strongly on the first light. It pops in now and again but never strong and I never tasted coconut at all. It's a good strong toby. I would call it scented but not an aromatic in any real way. I've certainly had worse things to smoke!

Jim

I have had the Sweet Coconut Twist. I agree with Jim. It's good. Different but good strong baccy. I only get a hint of coconut from it, usually on charring light. Other than that it's what one would expect from a G&H rope. If you enjoy the coconut flavor, you can get a little more of it by smoking it in a clay pipe.

...gentlemen...... thank you for your comments....

..........the coconut twist will be my next tobacco purchase...

........much appreciated...
