Tarek Manadily has operated this site since 2000, but sadly he is going out of business as of 01/01/12; I can't say why. He is a pipe connoisseur, and his pipe descriptions and evaluation of pipe shapes are the best I've seen on the internet. He has been a notable player in the pipe world. You might cruise his site for a 30% discount. Affordable pipes.

I shall miss him.

Thanks for the heads up. It's sad to see a great retailer close their doors.

No kidding--a sad day when a knowledgeable purveyor shuts down...what a great selection of nice Italian work. Duca especially.

There's some good deals on there... I wouldn't call all of them "affordable," but there's a price range for everyone (plus 30% off... not bad).

I agree there some beautiful pipes there specially the Duca's fish but even with the 30% off I'd have to sell my soul and borrow on my wife's to afford one.
Alms, alms anyone?

Oh, you liked that fish too, eh? In addition to not buying it for the same reason (broke)?

Yes sir I like it, the smooth one I think is the nicest.
And much more the broke, I believe they call it below poverty.

Very cool, one of my top five I ran into around the site. And with the discount, not out of the ballpark for many. Just me.

Others that made me melt...

Ah! Very nice but, I still as with you too pricey still. I reckon that's just another reason with 99.9% of my pipes were bought experienced (estate) besides hating to break a new one in.

Tarek Manadily is the reason most of these previously unknown Italian artisan carvers made it to a worldwide audience.

I break it down like this.

* I don't mind spending good money on a good pipe.

* I happen to have a lack of good money for the time being.

I've done quite well amassing a modest little collection of pipes by my own hand, with a little help. Thanks to the brothers here, in part, and lets not forget tobacco samples and tins! I get lucky sometimes, little no-name bric a brac pipes in thrift stores or antique stores, deals at the Tinder Box, on Craigslist... no, I've managed to do okay for some worthwhile pipes. The dreaded eBay, I hate to say, has provided me with a few deals, too. Enough pipes to have a couple weeks straight of rotation. Thank goodness for cobs and estates, eh? 8)

Now that means I can start saving up for a (another) Todd Harris, and eventually a Boswell, Rad Davis, Sasquatch, tNd, Teipen, Tinsky and other fine pipes. Not that I'm planning or anything. Or exclusively speaking "singular."
