Things in Japan just went from bad to worse

I wonder how much you guys will be laughing if the rector blows and spreads a radioactive cloud across the NW of the continent. You should go online and check the path of the debris from Chernobyl and various volcanoes to see just how much you will personally be affected.

That part of the main island is in the prevailing westerlies, (similar to most of the US). While obviously winds can vary from day to day, the odds are greatest that the majority of any potential "release" would travel in a western direction. But under calmer conditions, the on-shore/off shore diurnal wind cycle might reverse it. Or, of course, any passing low pressure cell or typhoon.

My biggest fear is that this plate movement occurred on the Pacific/Eurasian plate boundary, not the northern tip of the Philippine Plate, where the major Tokyo destroying earthquakes happen ever 70+ years. And they're well over due for another big one.

Jap's who live in Fukumama agree with you.

"Japs?" Really? Is that what they're called? "Fukumama?" Has this turned into an elementary school forum?
Wow...

Relax Harlock: Just a little jocular playfulness. Puros Bran and I get into the same sandbox once in a while. Ill will is never intended. No doubt a very serious situation with long term consequences. A nuke release is a very dangerous disaster for the entire world to deal with. Unfortunately, the Japanese people have had to deal with that tragedy before. It is good for all people of the world to see that our military is stepping up to the event with enormous resources to aid in recovery and to offer health care assistance.

Don't tell me to relax. And don't confuse jocularity for a dumb jock mentality. I believe the rubber room is reserved for that sort of crap.

Get a life man. Your blood pressure matters. Take care of yourself.

LIPIPE,

I personally am not offended one bit by what you said but Harlock does have a good point as to what is said in the round table. Even PB abides by this, though he does come close sometimes! 8)

So before this becomes a big thing just remember the rubber room and its rules were here before you or I were apart of this board.

Play nice children.

Some things are not funny.

I propose that in addition to the "Rubber Room" we should have a "Sandbox Room"

Bill

Umm.. I didn't say the potential incident was funny..
I don't think earthquakes and tsunami are funny..
I said Fukushima strikes me as funny.. and it still does.

As for the reactor going off. That would suck to the Nth degree.. Just like the earthquake n tsunami sucks to the Nth degree..

Just like tornados, hurricanes, bombings, and every other incident in human history that has taken a life sucks..

And I can realize that and still think Fukushima is a funny name (and I'm sure it means something like Bayville or some such in Japanese)

I agree that any "off color" humor as such ought to be left in the Rubber Room- regardless of the intent. People are forewarned of that sort of thing, and "jocular playfulness" won´t be met by disgust because it´s expected there.

Not pointing fingers or saying anyone´s wrong, just that "sandbox play" has it´s own place on the board.

Well that being the case lets all just quit posting.. Because everything is offensive to someone....

And since we are going to play self righteous indignation how bout lets play it for the folks actually affected by the earthquake and tsunami instead of what maybe possibly might happen (or might not)

Anyway .. Having said that . I do apologize for touching a nerve, pissing anyone off, etc etc..

Naw, ain´t about self righteous idignation, nor quitting posting either. Just using the "clam filter" before hitting the post button is all. Espescially on the more generally viewed parts of the forum. It´s more respectful to all members that way. It helps keep the place friendlier IMHO.

Well I don't see how what I said was wrong.. Really I don't..
I'm not playing dumb here.. That's a funny name.
But like I said I do apologize.

It´s cool. My comments were more directed at LIPIPE´s subsequent post anyway.

I never meant your post either PB. i just hating singling people out except when i just did it right now.

I may be stoopid, but the containment vessels have held so far. Any loose radiation is bad, but the safe-guards seem to be working better than I would have expected after 8.9 or 9.0 on the Richter scale. :affraid:
