like on another thread I get frustrated that I cannot purchase said pipe, I am sure many of you will hate it, but I love it so much I want to marry it. Why can I not be independently wealthy? :)

Well here it is, one of the latest from Walle "the crunchy tomato"

Like my momma used to say "... if ya can't say something nice, don't say anything at all " ______________________

Eww! I hate it. No, wait. I love it. Argh! It confuses me. It's disgustingly beautiful. Like a fungus. :p

You'll certainly have little to no competition from other collectors in the niche you've chosen.

yeah, cept for the fact that Walle sells his pipes all day long

It is briar, but its been radically rusticated and then treated with Walle's patented "driftwood" finish. I have no idea how he does it, and when I asked Christian, who also uses it, I was told, "sorry, that is a secret"

That stem is Fantastic! I seem to have a growing fetish for amber/orange stems, do you know what the stem material is?
I like the shape of the briar but not crazy about the rustication

its called amber extra, and yes I know that I am in the minority of liking this kind of weirdness.

I'd like it more if I was blind. :p I really like the rustication, but the color's a bit off-puting.

When the FDA takes over regulation of pipe design, that there will be the template the committee chooses for all briars, I'm thinking. Just looking at the stem makes me not want to smoke it, because it makes my jaw hurt. But to each his own..

Like the stem color, though I would prefer a thinner or saddle stem.
Color/finish. Red followed by white, then fumed in ammonia? That color just reminds me of some fumed oak finishes...possible?

well there are different parts of the process, fuming may be one. But the driftwood finish is actually some way in which he alters the texture of the pipe. It is like a chemical sandblasting. How he then does his color I am not sure of.

It takes a certain type of boldness and artistry to pull something like this off well. Not many can do it. It's weird as hell, but very compelling, and I really dig it.

Looks kind of like a coral white briar

If you could find one in 13b or similar shape you could make one.

Oh I could copy this pipe perfectly and I think even nail the colors, but I just could not get anywhere close to the texture he gets.
