What a ride it's been thus far! I decided on an impulse a few weeks ago to finally seek out a pipe for tobacco smoking. How hard could it be right?

Well I was in for a wonderful surprise. There is no halfway in enjoyably smoking pipes, and the days worth of research and relaxation from my newfound hobby are very welcomed.

I've acquired 3 pipes thus far, all estate pipes, all unknown names, all for under 20 dollars.
This first one I'd like to address is marked as a Tohogae and Imported Briar and seems to be in the nicest condition of the lot and required no refurbishing. I almost thought the seller had mistaken a carbon coating for use, the only indication of use I found being minor teeth chatter. This has become my dedicated aromatic pipe as I immediately smoked some Peterson's connoisseurs choice in it and doubt the smell will come out easily. (Fruitcake in tobacco form.)

I'm wondering if anyone knows anything about Tohogae pipes as all my research has ended in failure. Not even a slight mention of the brand anywhere. The pipe is of great quality as far as I can tell, and smokes wonderfully.

Most of the pipes I find at junk stores and antique places end up being "private label" pipes, so it could be a tobacconist that's long gone. Sometimes I come up with gem smokers, others are crap. This one pictured looks like the best of the three you've posted, just in obvious quality and poise. It's likely you'll never find the actual maker or lineage--but if it smokes good, it probably came from a reputable maker that simply never had the brand put on it.
