Since there was a discussion on both churchwardens (from Sherlock) and on Kaywoodies (a guide by NY Pipe Guy) I thought I'd share a couple vintage churchwardens with you. The Kaywoodie is from the 1950's and is in pristine condition and the Dr. Grabow Linkmans from the same era and also pristine.

Very cool and great looking pipes for being 60 years old. Thanks for sharing.

They're both really great looking briars and the stem on the Dr. Grabow is so much longer than the Kaywoodie. Both have been only lightly smoked. I don't smoke either of them although I've been tempted. What many people don't realize is that both of these pipes in their day where high end. In fact Kaywoodies in their prime were more sought after than even Dunhills. Most pipe smokers think of them as simply a drugstore pipe. Maybe now but in the era of the 1940's and maybe a decade after and before these briars where primo and at the top of the heap.

That KW just screams classic churchwarden to me. Can't believe you can resist smoking it!

I couldn't resist either one. Classy pipes!

These churchwardens are pristine looking and light as a feather but the bowls are really too small for me to enjoy my Virginia. I actually prefer the Oom-Paul style of which I have a few.
