Uhle's perfection plug burley

This may be the finest burley I've ever smoked. No kidding! I got a 7 oz bag a week or so ago and though the first couple of bowls had me kind of confused, I'm getting to where I don't want to smoke anything else. Do they give discounts on 10 pound boxes? :lol:

The trick was to completely ream and clean a couple of pipes and dedicate them to nothing else (at least until it was gone, I told myself). Also, not quite like the usual cube cut, this is more of a mix of cube cut and very roughly chopped tobacco so the gravity feed is followed by a little pack (not too tight, but tighter than normal with a cube cut) that allows for a much better burn. The fill-and-don't-tamp method leaves this a bit too loose and it doesn't like to burn well. I does take a couple f lights to get it going, but man, what a wonderfully subtle and rich perfumed smoke! Slow sipping delivers a wonderful experience and the taste and aroma are fantastic. This stuff is a 10 8)

I understand that Uhle's also has a crushed white burley (and the same with some kind of aromatic essence, their blend 255) as well as their blend #00, a ribbon cut white burley. I'm going to have to try some of these too, when I call for that 10 pound sack of Perfection Plug

Uhles #255 is cut similar to Perfection Plug, but the flavoring is quite different. I would describe it as somewhat similar to Field & Stream, although much more understated, less sweet and much less of the perfume in the aroma. Altogether very enjoyable.

Another cube cut is their Blend #300. It is lightly sweetened with "Honey Hive " flavoring, but to me, doesn't taste like honey at all. Just a light natural sweetness that complements the flavor of the burley rather than overshadowing it. It really is an a tobacco that you can smoke all day without becoming tired of the taste. It responds very well to slow,easy puffing.

I find myself smoking a lot of plain old ordinary PA these days, it's good, it's cheap, it doesn't bite or foul your pipe, what more can one ask?

Mike aka pipemaker is the one who got me hooked on Uhle's blends when I got to visit him when my son graduated from Navy boot camp. I seem to always keep a pound or two of their blend 71, 300, 232 and 255 on hand. I have been considering getting some of their straight burleys as I have heard nothing but good things about them.

They're not really an on line vendor, they're an old pipe shop that dates back to the 30's. You can see a little about their blends on the website but you'll have to call em to place an order.

They sell it in 7 and 14 ounce increments. I believe it was $18 for 7 ounces and $33 for 14 ounces.

Ah, Uhle's blends! They are most seductive if one likes burleys. The plug is as good a smoke as I can remember, and I've been touting it for more than a year. It took me a few tried to find a pipe(s) which may be compatible with the big taste and burn qualities. For me, Uhle's and Custombilts are an ideal combination. KWs seem a little small, bowl-wise, and the Plug needs a bigger bowl to open up the flavor. But, it is a treat to smoke, with that faint casing on the burley (I assume that there's a touch of casing but unobtrusive). Very much what I would imagine classic '30s smoke to be. And, the Plug mixes exceptionally well with 5bros, an added plus for the burley aficionado.

I called them last week and ordered a sample of blends. They are all very, very nice. Rich flavor, burley based and easy burning.

I was primarly interested in the Perfection Plug, but ended up with 4 different blends.

It's too early to report or review, but doing business with them over the phone was a real pleasure. Check their phone number from the Web site and give them a call. This stuff is gold.

Having lived in the Milwaukee area for many years, Uhle's was my favorite pipe shop. As Mike indicted, their #300 is a nice, sweet burley. I also really enjoy their Bishops Move, but not a cub of burley in it.

One oddity I've found with a couple of their blends, they often mix cub cut with shag with wild cut with little balls of cavendish, and they all burn at different rates. I have a tough time getting them to all burn together.

Still, all in all, a great, classic blender. Several of their blends go back to the 1930s, so they must be doing something right.

I've been working my way thru about 2 oz of Perfection Plug gifted me by a good friend,
this tobacco is amazingly good, once lit she burns slow, perfect for sipping. I'll be placing my order tomorrow....
