Can't say I have any experience with them but I've noticed they're on Ebay for the same price. I have seen many other Ukrainian pipes listed there too. I say what the heck, if it's no good your out what? 10 bucks! I spent that on a beer and a hot dog at the game today. :D

You could be the first to give us a review on these puppies.

Great advice Falconer!

That's what we do here on the BoB, make you want to buy more pipes. I had about 15 for 40 years and now since joining the BoB I have 8 more.

enjoy!

it is here gentlemen and it is good. extremely cool draw, seems to smoke very well. I'm gunna smoke it some more before i make any final verdicts though.

Hey, Nogbert... that sounds great!! Please do let us know what you think of it after a few bowls. The price is right! And, it looks like something that would be hanging from her mouth as Marie Leveau came floating up out of a Louisiana bayou! Couple those things with the fact that I love CWs, and I'm interested!!

I've got a few questions for you... hope you don't mind...

  • 1) I noticed in Amazon's description it said it is a briar pipe. Seeing how much wood appears to have been used to make it, I'm wondering; does it seem to be much (if any) heavier than the average briar pipe?

    2) In the pictures, it appears to be natural wood. Is that right? Or, does it have a finish of some kind?

    3) Amazon's description says the pipe is 9 inches long. But, it doesn't say anything about the bowl. Could you tell us approximately what size the bowl is... outer diameter... inner diameter... depth?

    4) From the bowl to the end of the stem, how many joints are there?

Darn neat looking pipe!! I would love to see pics of you smoking it... and, sure others would too!!

I'll try to answer your questions as best i can :p

1. i dont have a real briar pipe, but this pipe is not so heavy that you cant hold it in your teeth. it is a good feeling weight in my opinion.
2. it is natural wood. not briar though.
3. the pipe is more like 10.5 inches measured diagonally from bottom of bowl to top of stem. bowl dimentions Inner diameter .75" outter diameter 1 7/16" depth 1 3/8"
4. if by joints you mean places where two separate parts meet, only one, right at the heel of the bowl and of course where the stem enters the shank

pics soon

Interesting, Nogbert... very, very interesting!!!

I look forward to seeing the pics!!

just a quick update. sorry for no pics guys!

the pipe smokes great! on slight problem i found is that the draft hole was clogged with sawdustish material when i first got it. not completely clogged, but enough to inhibit smoke flow. i've managed to clear most of it out, but it is quite difficult since i dont have churchwarden pipe cleaners  should have thought of that lol

i will be picking some up soon though, and i shall commence with the smoking and pictures.

nogbert,

Be careful to develop a good cake in the bowl, as I feat that pipe is a softer wood (they seem to work a lot with pear in that part of the world) and it will char and burn out relatively easily. A good cake should help prevent that. I've got a cob that I've smoked for over five years rather regularly and it hasn't burned out yet (I have, but the pipe hasn't)

Natch

Hey Natch, do you think Osage root would work? dang, lord knows we got plenty of it west of the Bushwacker border. I wonder if anyone has tried it before?

cob, the briar of Mizzou. :D

Natch, I don't know how much stock on can put in their description. But, it claims the pipe to be made of briar. :suspect:

Yeah, but it's not.
Briar just doesn't look like that.
