Stumbled across this neat pipe while surfing for a specific meer that I have been looking for. It made me think about our nation's military and the sacrifices these men and women make, both those serving and those who have served, and figured I would pass along the link to any leathernecks on the forum. I think it is a really nice carving that may be appreciated by a Marine that might be on the forum.

I was searching Ural meerschaum pipes; I have one, a bent lattice with a yellow acrylic stem that was gifted to me back in 1984, and I noticed the sticker inside the case and thought to myself, I haven't really heard that name being mentioned in the years since. SMS and CAO dominate the retail sites as do a few others, but Ural seems to have dropped off the radar, at least to me. In finding the site I learned that the Ural sticker in the case of my meer stands for Deniz Ural. Here is a little info from the site:
"Owner of the web site, Deniz URAL, formed his company in Turkey in 1968. Up until his move to the USA in 1980 URAL pipes were exported world-wide. Between 1980 and 1998 URAL PIPES were sold wholesale to tobacconists nationwide in the USA. Since the past 10 years we have sold on this web site and on the internet as Best Meerschaums. Please join our satisfied customers."
So, it would seem that from the above, my meer was part of that period 1980-1998 when he was distributing to tobacconists worldwide and in the US since my meer was purchased at the Madison Ave, NYC Arnold's Tobacco Shop in 1984.
Looking further I noticed the Eagle Globe and Anchor and thought I would pass it along to any who might appreciate it.
Happy Smokes!
