Va. & VaPer Pipe

Help Support Brothers of Briar:
Others may have had a different experience, but I would think it would take a very powerful VaPer and a very weak VA to notice any ghosting in this scenario

Since the majority of the tobaccos that I smoke are Vapers it doesn't make much of a difference to me, LOL!
The more I go along the more I tend to separate the two, however. I used to smoke both in the same pipes but I am keeping pipes separate these days. Trying a new Va in a pipe I've recently used for a Vaper doesn't give me an unadultrated picture of what it's about. With some of the samples I get the quantities are not enough to just "smoke the ghost out of" the pipe. Having a dedicated pipe is handy in those cases.
If I'm not doing any "critical smoking" I don't usually mind the crossover effect. In some cases it's an interesting experience percieving the subtle ghosting of an earlier tobacco as you smoke another blend. Recently I reamed a Savinelli of mine that I'd smoked Black Irish X in over a year ago. Sure enough, as I got down the bowl I got a hint of it through some Dunhill Flake (I think that's what it was) I was smoking. The essence or aura kind of brought me back to where I was and what I was feeling a year earlier. That's a rare event, kind of like stepping into a place you haven't been in years and the smell brings back a flood of memories.

Since I can really pick up the taste of perique in a blend...when I'm trying a new tobacco I won't smoke it in a pipe in which I've smoked a vaper unless for some reason I have to. when I do I don't judge the new tobacco until after I've smoked several bowls and begin to taste the new tobacco rather than the perique.

I do since I don't have a large selection of quality briar and haven't seen really any problem I find myself having a mostly VaPer pipe, a mostly VA pipe and a pipe that I smoke either depending my mood, though all three end up seeing both some time or another.

Smoke whatever pipe you get enjoyment from your tobacco. Suggestions are a guideline only, really. 8)
I am particularly sensitive to Perique, and except for scant amounts in blends, it has ghosted somewhat for me in my straight VA pipes (all two of them...) The good news is, a good VA will kick that out in about a bowl, and fades rapidly from the first light. For most, I wouldn't worry about it. I have a bitchy palette.

I know guys who rotate and keep certain pipes only for that one blend. But since Chicago this year, I have smoked the Peter Heeschen I bought just about everyday. The few times I haven't, it was a Ruthenberg or Crosby. And the new Lepeltier. I smoke English, strong flavoreds, burley, just about any blend in them all.

...are there now questions as when to rotate and let pipes "rest?" I'm only going by books I've read where they suggest seven days to rest, and this was simply to allow the briar to dry fully again, possibly to not let flavors "sink in."
So I'm a pipesheep in this instance. :lol: I "cheat" this method at times, knowing my dry state probably allows my briar to reset itself about every three days. Cobs I let dry out a little more, as they really do soak up some moisture.
Whether any of this has any merit, I have no idea. It's an excuse to shop for, covet and buy more pipes.
