Good morning and a Happy Sunday to all. Starting with my own Tumbleweed in a Don Carlos bent brandy and CR morning coffee. Going to be a warm day, 65 on the patio already. Played fetch with Charlie for a while. He is now resting peacefully in wifey's lap. Have a great day everyone.

Yesterday I visited a cigar shop with a modest selection of pipe tobaccos...a few Peter S. but I think the odder named ones (Ben Franklin, Burley Light, etc) are mostly Sutliff. Anyway, just had their peppermint in a Kaywoddie. Not the sinus-clearing menthol I expected but a noticeable tingle on the tongue. Good taste and fragrance, and stayed lit with one relight.

Now smoking year 2020 D&R Raccoon’s Delight in my very reliable smooth straight post-1938 pre-Republic Peterson Sterling Canadian 263 with a sterling silver band and a tapered black vulcanite p-lip stem. Working and listening to Vic & Sade from my radio collection.

Vic & Sade is my favorite OTR show.

A third of a bowl left of pre-2014 Edward G. Robinson's Pipe Blend in a 2014 Basil Meadows smooth slight bend squashed tomato with an aluminum band and a black pearl acrylic stem in the military mount style. Watching the Yankees-Rays game. Going to be a judge for the annual Bill Finger Award this afternoon, which you can read about here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Finger_Award_for_Excellence_in_Comic_Book_Writing

How is that blend Jim? I was looking into getting some. I looked up his tobacco a couple years ago as I am a Cronkite fan. I love the image of him with his Peterson Lumberman P-lip standing in front of his desk.
Here's my review of it:
The smoky, woody, earthy, floral, vegetative, musty sweet Cyprian Latakia takes a small lead. The burley is toasty, nutty, earthy, woody, sugary, and lightly molasses and vanilla sweet as an important supporting player. The Virginias offer some tart and tangy citrus, grass, bread, sugar, floralness, light earth, wood, tangy darker fruit, and spice. They play back up to the Latakia and burley. The earthy, woody perique is mildly raisiny, plummy and spicy, and is just above the condiment line. The strength and nic-hit are a couple of steps past the mild mark, while the taste is close to the center of mild to medium. Has no harsh or dull spots, and won’t bite. Hardly has a rough note. The tobacco is a tad moist, but doesn’t need dry time. Well blended with a little complexity, it burns cool and clean at a reasonable pace with a fairly smooth, sweet, smoky, floral, nutty, mildly spicy, mostly consistent flavor. Requires few relights as it easily burns to ash. Leaves little dampness in the bowl. Has a short lived, pleasant after taste and a mildly stronger room note. An all day smoke that was smoked by famed CBS newsman Walter Cronkite. Three and a half stars.

Enjoyed a tasty lunch, and am near the first third of this bowl of year 2012 Esoterica Dunbar in a smooth straight, dark brown early 1960s Lane era Charatan Selected 43 Dublin with a black vulcanite double comfort saddle stem. This pipe was formerly owned by actor William Conrad. Gold Star Costa Rico Black Honey Geisha, neat, is my drink.

Enjoyed the Bill Finger Award zoom meeting, and we picked two people for the award. I've a third of a bowl left of Watch City English Ernie-ental in a straight dark brown and tan rusticated Peterson 2023 Saint Patrick’s Day 264 Canadian with an Irish flag colored ferrule and tapered black acrylic stem. Ice water and bergs is my drink. Watching the Dodgers-Mets game.

A third of the way through this bowl of Sutliff The Old Boss 175th Anniversary Blend in a full bend black pebble finish 2001 Rinaldo Lithos YY8 Titania Silver Line egg with a tapered black acrylic stem. Working on finishing the review some time today.

Smoking a Pete Watson with Sutliff vanilla cream and a Horton`s k-cup. This is another tobacco that got great reviews, IMHO, The vanilla is very artificial tasting in this tobacco. I have been busy making a Corned beef and cabbage dinner .

Coincidentally, I'm presently smoking a mix of Five Brothers and Sugar Barrel (match version) in a no name made in London pipe that looks a lot like that one.

PS I'm enjoying reading your reviews.

Good morning,

I'm relatively new to pipes after a 20-year absence so I'm learning (and unlearning) a lot. From descriptions, I wanted to like Granger but it was causing me trouble no matter what I did, always hot and harsh. Yesterday I tried the little Savinelli balsa filter in an ancient cob and it has made a world of difference. Granger is tasty and enjoyable now. If I'd known about these filters back then I probably wouldn't have quit.
Welcome aboard. Granger is a favorite of mine. I'll have to remember to use a filter with it sometime.

A few minutes away from smoking year 2010 Mac Baren Burley London Blend in a smooth medium bend 2011 Rinaldo Collection Fiammata Silver Line 7 Odea 04 flame grain bulldog with a silver band and a tortoise shell acrylic saddle stem.
