should I get in my order on Friday. Here is my order so far:

McClellands:
Bulk 5110
Bulk 5125
Christmas Cheer 2010 x2
Boston 1776
GL Pease:
Fillmore
Embarcadero
Ashbury

I'm only getting 1oz each of the bulk 5110 and 5125. I am trying to match it to a renamed McClelland blend my local B&M sells. If I knew what it was I'd just get more of that! But as it is, I need at least another $15 worth to get free shipping. What do you all suggest I try?

A tin of Rattray will set you back about $15. Try Old Gowrie or Marlin Flake, both really good Va's.

Hah, That's exactly what I was thinking! I got a tin of RRR a couple weeks ago, and have really enjoyed it. Maybe I'll go with Old Gowrie.

Union Square. And let it age for a few years, at least.

That was another consideration. I have a tin upstairs I've yet to open, waiting to get some age on it. Is it so awesome that I should stock up, even though I haven't tried it?

I like union square, i think for my money i like alot of other GLP blends better. Union Square if memory serves me is a straight VA and not as complex o blend as I am use to from GLP. With that being said most of what I have smoked has been recent stock and would like someone elses opinion of how it changes with age. Does it develop anymore with age or just get mellower?

I would definitely go with Union Square.

Comparing it with McC stuff, IMO, is like comparing a ribeye with bologna. I like 'em both, and bologna certainly has its place in the scheme of things, but there's a quality gulf separating them. McC virginias are consistently, monochromatically good. And not much more. Peaseweeds -- especially when they've had time to mellow -- are the state of the tobbaconist's art.

Ideally, McC for now (especially since you can't get FVF) and US for later. Expect order-of-magnitude quality increases @ the 2 year, 5 year and 10 year marks. The longer you can delay gratification, the greater the gratification is.

Well shiz, maybe I'll just get some more US. Now, I will need to get at least 2 2oz tins to reach the $15 mark.....or should I just spend another 12 and get the 8oz :D

Depends, Cody.

With 2s, you can open one and leave the others undisturbed. Once you open an 8, it's open.

If you flat out know you love something, then 8s are the cost-effective way to go (or 16s or bulk for jarring).
