Being a huge Bill Bryson fan, and the book of the same name being arguably my all time favorite of his, I was eager to get this DVD when it came out. Upon first viewing, I was quite disappointed as it didn't live up to my expectations. I felt Bryson could have done a lot better in recreating the story line set down in the book as there were significant deviations and omissions. While Redford and Nolte did a fine job in and of themselves the whole thing was a let down. Further viewing has left me somewhat less disillusioned, and now I watch it for what it is and not what I thought it could or should be. Still a great story, but the book is certainly the quintessential version and one I've read perhaps a dozen times. Cheers, RR
