...clothes that shrink as you get older.

I'm talking about the timeless stuff like jeans, work shirts, and so forth, not fashion-y stuff that will look dated.

Why? You never know when you you might be glad you didn't.

Before my recent bout with the Bad Health gods, I weighed 215-220 at 6'1" Today---I had a post-op follow-up this afternoon---it was 177. Size 38's were getting snug, and now 34's are falling off. And the weight loss probably won't stop until around 160-165.

Sounds like a joke until you price new clothes. Since I was never someone who could throw away still usable things, though, I was covered. I couldn't even remember what I'd saved until I finally got tired of dealing with the baggy stuff earlier this evening and dug out the boxes. Instant new (and effectively free) duds. Already broken in and ready to rock. A lot more stuff than I thought. Even a tuxedo.

I'd trade the forced weight loss for the ability to eat french fries and cheesecake again, but since that isn't an option I'll take some good fortune however it comes.

I'm still young, but I've been tending to lose weight over time rather than gain. Several years ago, I was 152, now I'm steady at 140. I once weighed 130, it took a lot of effort to gain back the weight. I've got a fast metabolism like my three uncles. They're in their fifties and sixties and have always been borderline emaciated. We have to work a bit at maintaining our weight, not shriveling up which can happen rapidly.

The women in the family are hatefully jealous.

I can say I am not a young guy of body anyway. I am so glad I saved my old t-shirts and jeans from 20 yrs back. When I retired Thanksgiving Day 2008 I weighed 210 lbs. I was pretty stressed out from the job and had been there 31.5 years. Two years later I am down to 160lbs and am in better shape than I have been since I was in my early 30's. All those old jeans and shirts fit great now.. If its good and you will use it some day pack it up.. Things cost way to much to buy new these days.. I am sure it will not get any better down the road..

I lost about 15 pounds over the course of a year, and was very glad that I had kept my favorite jeans from college in the bottom of my drawer all this time, "just in case." They're so nicely broken in, it's like getting to see an old friend.
