Its a cold, rainy, misty early evening which suggests an English blend - Maltese Falcon - and an English pipe, a Lane era smooth poker Charatan. Cheers!

It was a long day, but lunch time provided a spell to sit by this small tributary of the Elk River right where it enters. This was really clear water and in a sense, it is easy to see how Jack Daniels was drawn to make whiskey in these parts due to abundant clear clean water-Lynchburg is 15 minutes away. There were more Greater Blue Herons in this one place than I've ever seen. Note the one above the trout fishing sign. I was able to try Watch City Cigar Simply Voriental first and American Cut Plug last in an MM General with forever stem. These are remarkable blends and very natural tasting. The Voriental was spicy with tobacco incense like tastes. The American Cut Plug was a full on very tasty burley. I have plans for these tomorrow. The Voriental taste stuck with me in my mustache with some of the American Cut Plug there too, so I was going down the road sniffing it with joy.

They taste natural because there's no toppings, and have minimal casings, especially in V/Oriental. Only the Va. was cased in that one.

Now smoking year 2014 Sutliff 1849 in a medium bend smooth dark brown 1968 Barling 5631 London England TVF billiard silver spigot with a tapered black vulcanite stem.

I walked Jacksie this afternoon. I smoked another Black Friday purchase: Sutliff 515 RC-1 in an '80s Peterson smooth 312 with vulcanite p-lip stem. I had difficulty keeping it lit, so I may dry the tobacco a bit, and/or vary how I pack it. It has a lovely tin note and flavor, so I think I'm going to like this blend a lot.

Smoking a Pete SH Watson with W O Larsen 1864,Large mug of hot red tea. The 1864 is another blend that I have missed lately as it`s gotten a little pricey . I was lucky enough to score 3 tins at an auction site for a somewhat reasonable price.

Passing the quarter mark of this bowl of year 2014 Astley’s No. 55 in a 1915-1920 straight smooth dark brown BBB Own Make 150 apple with a silver band and a tapered black vulcanite stem. This will get me to dinner time.

I dry it out a bit and enjoy the sugary note added to the tobacco, I let it dry too much once and it got a little sharp, almost bitey. I also pack it a bit lighter than other blends.

Relaxing after a wonderful salad, haddock and snow peas dinner with strawberries for dessert. I'm almost a third of the way through this bowl of year 2014 FVF in a straight smooth dark brown 1896 W.H. Newman, Ltd. billiard with a sterling silver band and a tapered yellow and orange stem with white swirls and an orific bit. Community Coffee, neat, is my drink.

Passing the quarter mark of this bowl of year 2012 Carter Hall in a black rusticated medium bend 2021 Peterson POTY 4AB No. 437/500 military mount with a silver cap and a tapered black vulcanite AB stem. Stuff burns quickly.

A third of the way through this bowl of year 2014 Edgeworth Ready Rubbed Match in a smooth brown medium bend early 1900s C.P.F. The Chesterfield (Peterson copy) French briar military mount billiard with a nickel cap and black vulcanite AB p-lip stem. I'll end the day with this smoke. Got everything done that was needed. :)

0F this morning, I suppose that qualifies as cold. Coffee is on the make and I'll have CH in the Cobbler this morning. Debating the merits of running errands this morning. The longer I wait the more shoppers will be out...or I could go back to bed. Winter is for hibernating....and skiing. I'm looking into starting trails tomorrow. Krampusnacht is tonight, naughty children beware!

Good morning BoB!
I just finished a mm cob full of Captain Black Copper. In trying out some "new to me" cold weather pants I bought from the thrift store, I walked to the post office to deliver a letter while I finished my pipe. Pants are great, kept me warm. A chilly, but quiet and peaceful morning.
Now I'm at work sipping fancy green tea.
