    A tip of the hat...

I did a couple purchases from him a few years back and he was a true gentlemen and straight shooter.  I wish all businessmen would have his standards. Natch

    End of the Season rotation

Nice work. I certainly enjoy the one you gifted me last Christmas as well. May I ask, what makes them summer pipes? And on the flip side, what do your winter pipes look like, and what makes them winter smokers? I'll venture a guess that you switch blends with the seasons, and certain pipes...

    The nutcracker (...sweet?)

Not quite the same level of "contact", but I was working a high school soccer game back in 2011 and the teem with a free kick planned a "diversion", which worked to score the goal. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-yT5GPW-ggw I'm just out of the frame, in the lower right, level with the...

Completely vain and self-serving article on my brewery

Very cool, my friend. If you can find a picture from the past, the national brewery of Bolivia had a German gnome riding a beer barrel over a waterfalls as well. Like most of the breweries in Latin America, founded by German immigrants in the later 1800s. Natch

    Greetings from New Mexico

Chico, Welcome to the fray. What part of NM are you from? I was just out there a couple weeks ago, backpacking up in the Carson NF. Wonderful state; great mountains, national forests, and clear nights. I also heard a very good, all female Mariachi band from Tucumcari playing at the Old...

    Earthquake!

Good to see the interest in one of my favorite topics. Depending upon the courses I'm teaching each semester, I often include anywhere from a week to a quarter of the semester on plate tectonics. Mind boggling to many of my students, but fascinating once they wrap their head around it. A...

    Christmas Cheer 2016/2017

I opened a tin of 2000 CC two Christmas's back, and it was fantastic. However, I opened a tin of 2008 Blackwoods Flake recently, and it wasn't that good. No better, as best I can recall, than when I opened a tin from the same year in 2010. Guess it may vary by blend and year?

    Secret Santa 2016

Well, late again as usual. My SS box came last week while I was at a conference, came home for one day before heading out again, so I didn't send out a "thank you" to my overly generous SS as I should have. I also didn't get my SS box to the post office until Friday, so late on both ends...

For ALL of you Rattray lovers.....

Rattray's has been in short supply? I didn't know, and I sent a tin in my SS package. Are we allowed to have take-backs? Natch

    Pray for Portland!

When I first moved to Arkansas, I remember a couple day warning by the meteorologists of the impending "snow storm". The night before it was to "bury us" I stopped at Walmart on the way home and you would think that the end of the world was imminent. Every shopping cart was filled with bread...

    Secret Santa 2016

I'll try to get my pkg. out on Monday.  SWMBO is complaining about that 10 pounds of cherry, banana, chocolate, mocha, mint, cream, Cavendish with heavy aromatic topping stinking up the house.  Sure hope they accept it at the post office and don't make me send it as hazardous materials like they...

    2 year old fvf

Ahhhhh, the sound of that "pop" when the air first rushes out, and the smell of that long, restrained tobacco is one of the great pleasures of our hobby. I too look forward to it. I especially like the smell of a virgin McClellend's Virginia/Christmas Cheer tin. I know it's vinegar and...

OK, who's the wise guy that thought I should be bombed?

Come on, youse guys, who's da culprit? Here I've been AWOL for the most of the past few years, and you think I'm deserving of anything more than scorn and ridicule? Oh, I get it, a guilt trip...well, it worked. I feel honored to be bombed (and guilty for not being as active as in the past), and...

    Uhle's Blends

My first real "pipe shop" was Uhle's down on Wisconsin Ave. next to the river. I occasionally order from them, and their Bishop's Move is one of my favorite Lat blends. They also do good things with cube cut burly. Natch

    Secret Santa 2015

Got mine today.  Great tobacco, (including one I've never tried, much less heard of), great chocolate and an interesting book on cities.  I'm teaching Urban and Regional Planning this spring, so this translation from Italian looks to be applicable to our world urban perspectives and land-use...

    Copperhead skin

Quite true. You damn near have to step on them before they even thinking about striking. More than once I've walked and even sat within a foot or less of one and they barely even looked up at me. Natch

    Happy Birthday Natch!

Thank you all. Haven't been on the board much the past couple years, but if I can retire soon, I'll get a bit of my time back again. But I do appreciate your thoughts, Natch
