My favorite Pete shape. I have 2 pre-Republics, a Deluxe and a Sterling. Always looking for more. Thanks for referring to the blog. I had been unaware of it. RobD

    "new" pipe choices

I don't think you can go wrong with a Peterson, but don't rule out a Stanwell, one of the best (and certainly the best-designed) mass produced pipes. RobD

    Michael Novak pipes

I agree that these are not beautiful pipes. And, i think it's great that someone is willing to post an appropriately negative comment on the forum. Sometimes i think we're too careful to be PC. I know I am. I'm very fussy about aesthetics in pipes, but I hesitate to offer negative criticism...

    Ever have a pipe bleed?

This is probably due to an internal weakness in the briar . . . maybe a soft area that is porous to liquid. RobD

What do you look for in a pipe?

The first thing I look for is shape. A pipe has to catch my eye and make me want to hold it. Then, I look for interesting grain or (more so lately) nice sandblast. Third, condition . . . I don't mind if a pipe is a little used, but abused is not for me. Fourth, I try to limit myself to just...

    Pipe rim cleaning

I still use ethyl alcohol (e.g., vodka) to clean my rims. Yes, they're a little dull immediately afterward, but a little nose oil and smoking a bowl returns them nicely to their original state. RobD

    GBD 9438 - Super Flame

I understand your interest in focusing in on one shape. I've been always liked by the Celius Shape 12 and put together a sub-collection of that shape in all 5 grades. Now, I've started on the Dunhill 591, Hungarian. I've got the Tanshell and the Shell. Now I just need to find a $1,000 or so...

    User name and avatar

To: JKenP Thanks for your reply but I have no idea what you mean when you say "The avatar can be user configured using the option in the profile. You load it to one of the bucket photo site and link to it." "Option in the profile"? "Bucket photo site"? Please elucidate. Thanks, Rob

    CLRV's Cellar

Congratulations on starting your cellar. It's a smart move. I also started with the buy-two, smoke-one, cellar-one . . . that was over 20 years ago. If I ever went into my cellar for tobacco, I'd smoke the newer stuff and let the older tins continue to age. When I retired in 2007 I...
