Perique and latakia do it to me too; but sometimes it's time-delayed.

Mac Barens Dark Twist Roll Cake

This is an old review, but it still holds true for me. If I were writing it now, I would tone down the perfervid prose a bit, but I still hold the main points. Begin Text: Now for the umpteenth time I've been able to confirm that the MacBaren "macbitey" reputation remains and will remain a...

Can someone explain what happened with Penzance?

The Ruler of the Queen's Navee, Sir Joseph, is a character from HMS Pinafore, not the Pirates of Penzance. But if you mastered the Very Model of a Modern Major General patter song when you were still in grade school, then I salute you sir.

More on the new FDA regulations.

I guess. And can only guess. From the official disclosures on pending legislation and the explanations thereof in the media, I invariably walk away with confusion and more questions than answers, as if they wanted and intended it that way. But I would hazard a guess: this is not good. Learn...

The Great Best of the Best of the Best Aromatic Project

Ask for a sample of Edgeworth Aromatic (Red), if you can find someone who lives in the area in which the shop with some of it has a b&m.  Seek and you shall find.  (Hint: not me, I only received a sample of this recently from far away.) Astonishingly well-preserved for a 70s aro.  Nice birch...

When popping open a new tin....

If you and possibly GLP are right, then Samuel Gawith really wants us to smoke their blends at a very high moisture level indeed, including FVF! Also, some blenders may say that also because they want us to smoke their baccy right away, so we can buy more. There should be no such fear from...

When popping open a new tin....

I've found in my own experience that some tobaccos smoke fine right out of the tin, but even then usually with some "airing out" to benefit from the change of oxygen. I've also found however that most tobaccos do improve with some aging. Even the ones that smoke fine out of the tin benefit...

    Radice pipes?

I'm very happy with my Radice Rubino billiard (or pot/billiard, come to think of it).  I must have lucked out because the stem is well molded and has a perfect, cushiony fit with the shank.  Great briar and engineering.  One of my best smokers for the last four years.  Would have preferred the...

    Mcclelland Oriental and nosewarmers...

I don't think it's your imagination or user error on the difference between the old and new Original Oriental. It used to be one of my favorites blends back in 2009. The last tin (not bulk, mind you) showed the same characteristics that you mention. This is not the only one of my favorite...

    Germain's Plum Cake mixture

Ditto on the Mac B for me. But I suspect they're two different flavor configurations.

CRAZY Price Increase on Mac Baren Tobaccos!

And there I was, feeling guilty because I had stocked 100g tin after 100g tin of my favorite MacBs. Feeling like, justified, right now.

Park Lane - 'The Connoisseurs Flake'

I've been enjoying Connoisseurs Flake and Red Paramour for some years now. An iteration of Connoisseurs Flake, which some consider a deeper and closer version of the old Ed Burak classic, is Park-Lane's Liebman's Scottish Flake. I like both, but I give Liebman's the edge.

    Solution to Stinky Pipe Cleaners!

An interesting discovery. But be warned, you may have merely exchanged the proximity of stinkiness with the proximity of a fire hazard.
