    Actor Glenn Ford

I remember that I too included that great photo of Ford (who passed away not to long ago - he was over 90) in another forum featuring famous pipesmokers some years ago. I read in a bio essay on the actor that he picked up the pipe from his father, who worked for the Canadian railroad system...

    The dreaded tongue-bite . . .

I would like to add to the kudos for your post, and not only newbies will benefit immensely from it I'd wager, as tongue bite is a perennial challenge for many of us pipe smokers. I cut and pasted your sage advice to my Tips and Info folder in my pipe tobacco database. Thanks.

Just read that Bob Runowski has died

Craig Tarler of C&D announced today in another forum that Bob Runowski passed away some two weeks ago. I don't know why his passing took so long to reach the pipesmoking community in which he was so active, but there it is. Shockingly sad news. I befriended Bob in several sites like this one and...

    Hello from Northern Michigan!

Welcome Dan, from another former poster from another forum.

Remember William Gargen as Martin Kane

I do! I used to watch it in the early to mid 50s. Believe his name was spelled Gargan.

Uhle Tabacco Company Cannot Ship To Michigan

They can be sent by the merchant to customer, but not person to person, afaik.

    Opinions on Neerup pipes please

I purchased a Nerrup Selection Smooth Bent Brandy (32) about two years ago. It took a while to break it in to my satisfaction, although admittedly I have a long rotation order for my pipes. It now smokes fine in all respects and is dedicated to quality aromatics.

    Balkan Sobranie Throwdown

Thanks for the info - very glad to hear that it's available as one of the Marquee Series. But I thought that Russ was selling his blends through smokingpipes.com now? Other things on Greg's plate? What could be more important than to help recreate or at least convincingly emulate Balkan...

    Balkan Sobranie Throwdown

I don't know the reason for his abscence, but it was unfortunate that the Dark Lord himself, whose description of Balkan Sobranie as the all-time legendary blend is often quoted, did not participate or was not included in the throwdown. Maybe if someone whose stock of Syrian latakia did not...

    C&D Bayou Morning Homade Concoction

I presume you mean the original Bayou Morning (i.e., not the flake version). BM is one of my favorite VaPers, so thank you so much for the tip. But I think I'll use some Flor de Cana, an excellent Nicaraguan rum that I have in the pantry.

    Subaru Forester

That strategy could backfire, nowadays. She may attract a guy who likes to watch. But if the Forrester is good, get it.

IPSD 2011 @ HABANA PREMIUM / ALBANY, NY

Great post Dover! Russ O is Da Man indeed, dedicated and exemplary skilful at his craft, humble, and approachable to H&H fans, and responsive to their interest in his fine blends. Very glad to hear you all had such a nice time of it at that IPSD outing.

Has anybody tried the Hearth & Home marquee series?

I just got two tins - Sweet & Savory and Magnum Opus. Popped the S&S and smoked a couple of bowls. A very good, smooth VaPer with some Kentuck leaf. Most flavorful, and the name is appropriate. It did not bite me at all. Pretty good fill, burn. Haven't tried the MO yet, but I hear good...

For me nothing beats a good BurVaPer for a morning smoke. C&D Exhausted Rooster in a Stanwell Colonial 207, a cherrywood shape.

    Penzance

Mmh, good point. That means that the 20x50g tins of Penny Z that I bought 1-2 years ago for cellaring are now costing me a fortune for not selling them!
