    Split-Beard Pipes?

The package arrive the very next day (the 25th). All is well after all. They even threw in a tamper for the delay. Sorry for the false alarm. Yeah, it was probably the worst possible time.

    Split-Beard Pipes?

Anyone done business with them? At this last Chicago Pipe Show, I was given a sample of one of their tobaccos.  I emailed later to order some. A check was mailed around 6/11 and I expected some time to pass so they know the check would clear.  I followed up on July 6 as nothing was received...

    Any cigar suggestions?

Well, based on your pipe tobaccos, you might enjoy some Acid cigars. They are a bit aromatic. Start with "Blondie" as it is a shorter smoke - a good intro. Otherwise, Macanudo is gentle. So is Helix. And many more as the next posts will demonstrate.

La Brumeuse Semois from pipes & cigars

I'll second the cigar-like aspect. Ditto for not earth-shattering. Didn't care for it all that much, but it was not bad. Just not for me. A few years ago, samples were given at the Chicago show. One of the variants was a "clump" wrapped like a cigar. One end is set into the pipe and the...

    Why are aros so disrespected?

My only complaint with aros is that many are WAY too light in flavor. I end up puffing harder trying to get some flavor, tobacco or otherwise, from a bland tobacco. The initial light is nice, but then it is as if there is nothing there but heat. I decided to attack some aros by courtesy of the...

    The Tax man cometh......

That's why when a new client comes in, I ask for the prior three year's returns. They can all be amended. Nearly done for this year. Waiting for a check to release some partnership returns. Then the party. Worst tax season in thirty five years.

Guy ordered not to smoke in HIS house...

The poor guy probably can't sell his home, either. Who would want THOSE neighbors.

What are you writing with today?

The PFM III is nice. I have a burgundy one. Today, however, I have a Pelikan 400, a Parker 51(aerometric) and Namiki Falcon inked.

    What's in a name?

I simply took your handle as Briar (natural for a pipe board) and Babe (to state that you are female). Seems a clever alliteration. The newbie aspect hadn't occurred to me. People overthink things sometimes.

    Veterans Day 2014...

A veteran is someone who wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America," for an amount of "up to and including my life." Thank you.

    Gird Your Friggin' Loins, Man

Oddly enough, this was the topic of some discussion heard on television recently. If things truly happen in threes, this will be a weird trio.

CUSTOMER SERVICE AT IWAN RIES? (UPDATE)

I have only had good service from IRC. If this is the only time you have had a problem, well, have you ever made a bad impression? It is easy to do sometimes. Now, if this is a repeat problem, then yes, blast them.

    THE COMPLAINING CORNER

And there is the cartoon of two angels sitting on clouds playing harps:One turns to the other and says "So, I guess now it is just taxes..."

    thoughts?

Saw those at the Chicago pipe show and was tempted. I like the design.

Do you have all of your teeth?

Three wisdom teeth pulled (not sure which one is still there). A number of crowns though. All considered, not bad. My father and I were the only ones that had teeth. All the rest (mom and ancestors) had dentures as far back as I can remember.

    What's your 9 to 5??

Tax CPA. Never a dull moment and tax season goes all year now. Doctors have medical breakthroughs; we have Congress.

    Taking care of one's briar...

I have had good results with Briar Pipe Wipe. The 'handi wipe', one white and now gray, seems to gather slight abrasive properties which helps a bit with the stem.
  19. Fazby

OK, so who here has broken a stem?

Three pipes.  Two due to dropping them (stupid...).  Third twisting the stem to clean it (more stupid). All three were relatively lucky - only the tenon broke, not the stem. Cheaper fix.

I keep hearing the voice of John Cleese when the boss speaks.
