My neighbor carved an Easter Island Head for this backyard. It turned out really cool. I'd love to do something like that one day. I asked him how he did it, and he said he first used a chainsaw, and then just tools he had. I'll have to get more clarification before I ever attempt the thing. If...

I'd appreciate advice on this pipe project

LOL! Buy me some briar and you can have it in fair trade! LOL! My friendly B&M gave me some new baccy to try in this pipe, but now I can't remember the friggin name!!!! I'm such a doofus! I made the mistake of stopping by and then looking at some really nice Bjarlings, all priced at $85...

    Making my First Pipe

I need some advice on how to use a friggin caliper. LOL! I bought an entire set, but I'm having a really difficult time understanding how to use these measuring devices to ensure symmetry between all rounded sides. Okay, okay, I pretty much sucked in shop class in High School. :)

I'd appreciate advice on this pipe project

Here is a new attempt at the stain. I wasn't happy with the darkness of my first attempt. After sanding the thing lightly, I diluted the liquid stain a little with denatured alcohol. On this particular go around, I think I got a better handle on buffing the thing, as it turned out much shinier...

    Making my First Pipe

UberHuberMan: How are you shaping the stem? File, dremmel, disc sander, etc? I'm just curious. I finally have my latest pipe to what I think might be it's penultimate state. There are still some minor flaws to iron out, but, at any rate, what you're working on looks very, very nice. Martin

Article by Kurt Huhn all novice pipe makers should read

Hey Everyone, I have been researching for a long time, what tools to use, compounds, stains, etc, for my pipe making hobby. Initially I read the Pimo book, which I would highly recommend to everyone starting out @ www.pimopipecraft.com I recently joined PipeMakersForum, just so I can read...

    Web Cam on Mount Everest

I'm doing research for some creative writing and stumbled on this cool little tid bit of information. It's a web cam that shows the summit of Everest and is placed at 18000 feet, making it the highest altitude webcam in the world. http://www.evk2cnr.org/WebCams/PyramidOne/everest-webcam.html

    Negotiating during job interview

Yeah, I know. She has the same worries. I think the real issue, is that we're not sure she'll get a leave of absence. And then, if I have to give up my job.... oy wey! It's very, very stressful. Of course, she'd rather teach than anything. She loves teaching more than anything else. So, I think...

Pac NW hit hard by freezing rain stowm

That's crazy stuff. This is a strange winter. It's been so mild here in the south, we've barely worn winter clothes, but other parts of the country have seen off and on chaos. Best of luck to you. Stay warm and stay dry. I heard that a good pipe and adult beverages help with this kind of...

    Making my own tamper

I am inspired by the Ming Kahuna site and want to attempt to make my own lucite/acrylic tamper for my pipe. Has anyone on the board tried to do this yet? I have a shape figured out, I think, but I don't really know how to work with acrylic. :) I'm assuming you shape it as you would briar? I...

    Negotiating during job interview

Hey Dave, Thanks for your feedback. I see your point of view, and I know that there have been instances where I've hired for positions, and the candidates and I have did discuss benefits. However, for all of these positions a salary range was posted. Although we all know what that really means...

    Negotiating during job interview

Hey Guys, I have a question. My wife is interviewing for career changing job. The problem is that it would mean a cross country move, which means I need a job as well. So here's the thing, I know you don't talk money or benefits during the initial job interview, but how do you bring up the...

    Bit 'o' good news...

Glad to hear it. My wife has a big job interview coming up in IL, and I'm not sure where it's going to go. We live in NC, so it would be a big deal to move, etc. etc. Life is always interesting, to say the least.

    Anonymous attacks DOJ site...

Anonymous is a scary group. If you really think about it, all you have to do is piss them off, and they have the organization to take down anything. It's true that a DDoS is less impressive than actually hacking the site, but I'm sure they're already working on that. I guess the really scary...

    California baccy prices

Taxes in general are high here in NC. The Governor wants to raise it again. It's already at 8%. I am not sure how much higher the "sin" tax is, but most people will drive to SC to get cheaper booze and cigarettes. Problem is that there's no really BM anywhere outside of Charlotte.

Virtual Audio Chat - Smoking Lounge

Since I opened pandora's box, I thought I'd reply. :) I would be interested in trying this, but with a 2 year old, I get very little "daddy time". :) Maybe if we did it once a month? Let me try and figure out a time to do this, and see if I can figure out some topics. I'd be more than glad to...
