    Cake Maintenance Method?

Whiderwarde, I do exactly the same thing you do with your cleaner after each smoke. But I think you would have to use a reamer after a few months anyway. Actually the building of the cake is the hardest part of learning to smoke pipes. At least that was for me. I really started to enjoy smoking...

mason jars versus weck or bail-top jars

I have kept my tobacco in bail-top jars for 8 years now and I have not any bad experience. On the contrary, the tobacco has aged very well and has kept the humidity and aroma.

    CLRV's Cellar

Rattray Old Gowrie... I was planning to buy a few ounces of that. Let me know if you like it or not. I have tried Rattray s Accountant s Mixture and Marlin Flake and they are very good. About keeping tins in your cellar, my experience is not very positive. If you keep tins for some years, they...

    Rocky Patel Edge.

Puros, more power to you friend. Cigar appreciation is very subjective. I have bought some Rocky Patel and I am looking forward to try them. But really, I am skeptical that they can come close to the satisfaction habanos provide me. I think for me the key factor for habanos to be really...

    Flake Pipe

I would load big size pipes only with flakes. Having say that, flakes used to be my preferred cut but now I am really finding pressed tobacco to be the most satifying.

How much do you have cellared?

I have not more than 10 pounds of pipe tobacco. My cigar collection on the other hand is quite considerable, I have something in the rank of 500 premium cigars, mostly habanos. But, now I am smoking much more pipe tobacco and less cigars. I believe aging is not so important for pipe tobacco as...

    Sweet Finds

I never considered it to clean my pipes using any special liquids. I had used only alcohol, but I am considering to use rum. Rum is sweet and has a high percentage of alcohol.

Steaming your Tongue Bitting Tobacco for Smoothness

Harlock, I just tried the steamed tobaco and it was much better. It had some elegant elements added to the flavor (my main fear was that the flavor somehow would be gone) and what it is more important the bite tongue characteristic was really diminished. What I would next is to increase from 30...

Steaming your Tongue Bitting Tobacco for Smoothness

I have kept in my cellar for many years some McClelland tobacco that it burned my tongue everything I tried to smoke it. Aging the tobacco it did not help to solve the tongue bitting problem this tobacco was giving me. So faced with the alternative of throwing away two pounds of a precious and...
