    Any Ham Radio Operators?

Wanted my amateur license in the worst way when I was a teenager but could never afford it. Finally got my license a couple of years ago and do enjoy it mostly just sandbagging and occasionally will jump into on an open conversation. Travel a lot by car and carry a 2m HT. As much for the APRS in...

a growing interest in nasal snuff..

Regarding brands my favorite is Wilsons of Sharrow. Very old manufacturer, lots of traditional blends. Aniseed extra is my #1, but Irish High Toast, Tom Buck and occasionially Crumbs of Comfort are in the rotation. I do snuff Toque but don't find I get the same kick as WoS, I like their...

    Storing Flakes...

I know that I am going to get a lot of nay sayers here but unless my bulk came to me in a plastic baggy, I store it in the original box or package (ie Sam Gawith, Stokkebyes, Esoterica etc) that it came in. I only buy these in box quantities so needing to transfer to a jar rarely becomes an...

    bowl shape vs tobacco type

I smoke a lot of flake Va and Vaper's and as stated already by the good Mr. Yak, almost always find that a small, straight or almost straight pipe is my preference. Far and away my favorite bowl shape for these tobaccos is a Dublin. I find the thick walls allows me to smoke slow yet build up a...

Anyone use a pipe lighter insert for a Zippo?

Agreed. Zippo with pipe insert is a great lighter and a classic.

    Any small engine guru's?

Try adding a few ounces of "Seafoam" to the gas and running it through. It is pretty good at cleaning out the varnish that can restrict gas flow enough to cause this type of surging. The exhaust will likely blow white smoke with this but that is normal.

    What is Bourbon Whiskey?

Wild Turkey 101 is my goto bourbon. Recently picked up a liter of Kirkland Signature 103 proof 8-yr bourbon at Costco and it is pretty good juice especially for $20 per bottle. Comes from Beam and Co. but not sure what it was originally destined for, possibly Knob Creek or another mid-range product.

    What are you smoking?

Found a baggie of PS LNF in my travel kit that was pretty dry but not crunchy. Fired it up and it was one of the best smokes that I have had in a long while. Was perfect with a strong cup of tea and a book out on the deck.

    What Are You Reading?

Wife and I both got Kindles for our anniversary so I have been switching back and forth between a lot of different reads. Finished Tom Sawyer, hadn't read that since my teen years. Before that was Hitchhiker's Guide for same reason. Current fiction is Containment by Chris Cantrell, was...

    Storing Boxes of New Cigars

Mine go into my coolerdor. Usually for at least 5 years since I don't smoke a lot of cigars these days. Sealed box, cello stays on them till it is all yellow and brittle. Last ones in were my Christmas #2's, should be really tasty about 2015!

    On cellaring a pound

Sorry, when I said jam jars, I was referring to the 8oz Ball jars that are sold specifically for canning jams and jellies. We do a lot of canning and have a plentiful supply of those around the house, and the size is convenient for storage and for opening an appropriate amount. Actually I...

    On cellaring a pound

My preference is 8oz jam jars that usually hold 100g pretty nicely.

    Ice Storm

If you gotta go to the store before a snow storm then you aren't really prepped for much. Fifty pounds of tobacco, at least 3 gallons of single malt and enough food for a month, I think I will get through a 2 day snow storm!

    Cobs

For all the reasons already listed. Plus, I find a cob does not ghost so it is great for testing out a new tobacco, same as its name-sake the meer. Put a forever stem on your cob and you have a pipe worthy of the best tobacco.

Low tech solutions for high tech problems

In the early '90's I was partner in a PC business. People would bring in their computers with dead hard drives hoping we could recover something from them. One fix that worked about 80% of the time was to take the hard drive out, take it in the back room (so no one would see) and whack it with a...

Ken Collins AKA Pipetongue AKA Dad

I don't know how to say how sad I am to hear this. Ken is a true gentleman and one of the finest here at BoB. His presence here has been sorely missed the past few weeks. Dock, my sincere sympathies and prayers for Ken and his family, and for yourself as I know you and he have been close...

Post your AR's with your favourite things!

Thanks. My oldest son bought me the basic carbine for Christmas back a few years ago, he bought himself the same one. We both used them as kit guns and built them up to where we wanted them. According to my wife I got a little carried away. In some ways it is kind of a poser rifle but it does...
