I have a tub of Sugar Barrel that's been open for 6+ months. It is still perfect. They use some good PPG in these baccys. I think these tubs seal pretty darn good.
 
The Carter Hall canister keeps the tobacco within very fresh. I don't jar mine, and a tub lasts me a looooong time.
 
Had just the CH tub with the stupid self-sealing-vacuum lid going for at least a year in the parched Great Basin. It dried out a little, but so long as the temps stay below 80F wherever you keep it, no problems. The pouch in my glove box I forgot about was corn-flakes crispy in three months over the summer. Oops.
