Just recently I bought an 8oz. Bag of Esoterica Dorchester and being that this is the first time I've bought bulk in this particular container would it be wise to leave it in the bag or divvy it up into mason jars seeing all I have right now are 1/2 pint jars?

Word on the street is that the bags are not reliable.

My recommendation is to jar it.
(If you run out of jars you can always send the excess to me for safe keeping.;) )

Thank you sir, I just bought a case of 1/2 pints so I should be able to cram 8oz. into 3 of them and still leave myself one m/t. But, I'll keep you in mind if I have any over flow.:suspect: :D

I'm wit Todd on this.

I have a bunch of Dorchester cellared (this one and the Dunbar are favorites) and it's always been my policy to jar it on receipt.

Why? Well there can be pin prickd in the mylar. Anal? Maybe. but why take the chance?

One 8 ok. bag fills three 8 oz. Ball canning jars, plus a little left over to enjoy right away.

Bingo.

I agree, better safe then sorry I reckon. I kinda figured it fit being the difference in liquid and dry measure.

The newer Esoterica bags are much better than the older cream colored ones, marked distributed by Butera. I have several newer bags and they are all fine. I had a old bag of Stonehaven and you could smell the Treacle topping straight through it. I jarred that up immediately.

Old or new, matters none to me.

Also, FWIW, I am not a fan for Stonehaven. I tried aging it. 8 years later, it looked great, lots of plume etc., but still BLEH. Much better Va/Burs IMO.

Seeing the pinhole idea came up and I live in Murphy's world I will jar it up as I do with zip lock bags. No sense in taking anything to chance. Jars are cheaper then tobacco.

At first I felt the same way about it. But after a while it really grew on me. There's a certain tone it has that's really unique and I enjoy the smooth billowiness and texture of the smoke. There's also a touch of sweetness that I find quite compelling. While it's not my favor VABur, it's unique enough to warrant a space in my modest cellar.

For me, the best Va/Bur is Solani Silver Flake 660.

If you haven't tried it. Rich's (4 Noggins) Weybridge is one damn fine blend.

Needs aging in the jar for 6 months, but hard to beat and being a bulk, no better value IMO.
