I just started smoking a pipe last week and have smoked cigarettes for 18 years. I must say smoking a pipe is far more relaxing and satisfying than cigarettes.

I picked up a "test drive" kit off of the net than included a pipe tool, a couple brands of tobacco , pipe cleaners and a pipe. I am already hooked on it and can't wait until the lazy days of summer to sit on the riverbank ,fish, and smoke on the pipe!

Welcome, and find a local Pipe shop and try out a bunch of different tobacco's

Thanks Guys! I am just trying to find a decent tobacco shop near me. I found a "tobacco store" that is nothing more than a convieniance store with very few choices in anything as far as tobaccos and such. They only carried 4 or five pipe tobaccos I tried all of them only to realize that I only liked the Captain Black gold and royal, and the Half and Half. The other two was Sir Walter Raleigh and Borkum Riff. In my oppinion I didn't like the "dryness" of the SWR or the fact that it was a bit harsh. The Borkum I wasn't big on either because I didn't like the cherry flavor of it. So far I have discovered I prefer cavendish.

Out of pure curiosity...ok maybe some boredom I took a healthy pinch of every tobacco I had and threw it in a jar and mixed it together. I am going to try that later on and see how that goes. Hopefully It will make the SWR and the Borkum more tolerable to me.

Hey, welcome to the board! I'm too am fairly new to the pipe smoking thing, at least as a serious hobby. :) In case you're like me and can't get enough info about the pipe, try www.pipedia.org It's a treasure-trove of info.

Enjoy!
