Well I will be :) I am in the process of trying to learn as much about pipes and this hobby as I can right now. I would love to get a pipe right now but I have a problem with just buying the first cool thing I see. I like to be informed. I actually think when it comes down to it I am going to have a hard time making my first pipe purchase. I mean, how does one go about figuring this out? New? used? I know I want a wooden pipe not a corn cob though. straight or curved? Im so torn. And I would really like to smoke herbs not tobacco. Does anyone know anything about herbal smokes? Is there a good book out there on pipe smoking? I'm also all about owning books. I dream of amassing a large quantity of books and putting them in a wooden paneled wall study/library someday sitting in my wingback leather chair smoking my pipe......sounds great. anyways hi to all and I hope this post gets some replies.

I don't know anything about anything... but - there was a thread about smokable herbs and native American smoking blends that I saw just the other day...

Here it is.

Reading the links from that thread, it seems much safter to just smoke tobacco to me... but hey... YMMV.

thank you all. Al though as far as I knew this was a forum about pipes and tobacco. Although I may not be interested in tobacco I am very much interested in pipes and would hope that I would still be welcome in this forum for that. As far as I can tell this is a great community here and would like to be a part of it.

May I suggest that you give some thought to a cob? Cheap so you aren't out much if you decide not to pursue pipe smoking. Save your money until you're sure and then buy that cool pipe.

I am reading this same suggestion throughout these threads. I think I will stop by the local smoke shop today and purchase one. Thanks!

Nothing wrong with cobs...I smoke mine all the time amd LOVE it. You might want to look into a Peterson, great pipes for the money.

Me and my lady got our start on cobs, I like them because they are cheap so you don't have a lot of cash invested if you end up not liking its style or smoking in general.

Welcome. Can't help you on the Herbs.

Search yields a number of book threads:

I have Richard Hackers and Newcombe's books. Ewa's "The Book of Pipes and Tobacco" is an excellent reference as well. I grabbed all those via Amazon, for around $10-$15 delivered.
