I just completed a refinish of a Peterson that belongs to the wife of a guy I work with.  I had refinished his Pete and his wife liked it so much that she asked me to do hers.

The pipe started with a very dark color:

I sanded the finish off the Pete, which I have to say is like removing powder coat from metal, and once the finish was off two medium size fills and a lot of little sand pit fills were revealed:

So instead of putting the finish over the pits, which would show through, I connected them with some rustification that a female piper would find attractive:

I then applied a coat of Fiebings Leather Dye - Oxblood, then rubbed it out good so that it was thin and the grain could show through:

The final step was a good buffing with Tripoli, White Diamond, and the application of two coats of Carnuba:

I think she will like it.

It looks terrific!

The rustication and new stain really makes it shine.

I love the new stain and the ridding of the opaque finish, cleaned up nicely, good job.

For me rustication should be a part of the pipe because it just 'feels' natural being there, I couldn't rusticate a piece of Briar to cover up one of more of natures beauty spots, but that's just me.

Excellent work, again! Peterson should just send this pipes to you and get it right the first time.

<table><tr><td><table><tr><td></td></tr></table></td></tr></table>Beautiful! I especially like the added rustication.
