I got a bonus for some training I did and I want to build my tobacco collection. As a newbie I've barely built up much "cellared" tobacco in my collection. I need to take a break from buying pipes šŸ˜. So tobacco it is.
So assuming you can buy three tins and three pounds of bulk what would you buy. Don't worry about what I like. What would you buy.
Only readily available tobacco. No nostalgic picks from 10 years ago. It has to be available at one of the online stores.

Thanks in advance for your participation.

If you are a newb and want to buy 3 lbs of bulk. you should buy them in 2oz incraments. That will give you 24 samples to try. I wouls suggest some Va/Pers, some english blends, maybe a balkan or two, some burley blends, maybe a straight virginia. Go to tobacco reviews and read what people are saying about blends you might be interested in. You don't want to spend $40 on something you don't like or care for. Maybe get some blending tobaccos to give you what specific tobaccos taste like. Besides this will give you variety, instead of 6 blends , you'll have 27 blends to choose from.

Make sure your intended vendor ships to WA state. Quite a few donā€™t. Vendor sites usually have a section in the back that covers shipping, etc.

I've read on likely this forum that English blends don't age that well, so possibly consider the type of blend. I do believe Virginia Perique blends age well, and would expect the same from burley. Another factor might be that some tinned blends have developed mold even while as new sealed. Unless you were going to pop tins and jar, this might influence towards bulk. If you like pressed tobacco like cakes and plugs, bulk can be pressed using homemade presses. Here's a real simple and cheap example. You might get interested in blending your own, as I did with this Virginia and Perique.

Bulk (These are blends I love and am now starting to buy in larger quantity)

Wilke Royal Admiral (semi-aro English)
Watch City - Rouxgaroux (Virginia/Perique)
The Country Squire - Choctaw (Aromatic)

Tins (I have relatively little experience here)

Drucquer & Sons - Inns of Court (American English)
Sir Walter Raleigh Aromatic
Edward G. Robinsonā€™s Pipe Blend (Aromatic)

Bulk I buy,
Country Squire's Cowboy Coffee
Cornell and Diehl's Pegasus and Winchester.
Gawith Hoggarth Brown Flake aromatic
Rum Flake
Tins Peterson Royal Yacht
Peterson University Flake
War Horse Bar
Tubs I have a lot of those stocked up from when Lane moved to Denmark. I have all the Captain Black series
Sir Walter Raleigh regular and aromatic
A few tubs of Lane Limited Ready Rubbed.

Way cool. l love coins and could blend my own which would be fun.
I make custom pasta in patterns. I wonder if I could do that with a roll?
Thank you.

I bet you could. I just used the veggie can, then discarded it because you want that bottom to press against. Then, just cut with a can opener. If you do any plain or patterns, please post.

I'll have to figure out the difference between expanding the pattern vs compression of it in the tube. I think I'll watch a couple of hard candy pattern videos for ideas.

This is the kind of patterns you can get with pasta. (Not mine I'll look for pictures)
Tobacco patterns TBD.
