A Road Dog, Why? Cause I Said So!

I think this is my 18th but, I'm calling it a Road Dog just because I want to.
It, like most I've done is made from Algerian Briar and has a Hand Cut Acrylic stem.
Now I think this is probably, no not probably, IS the best work I've done to date. Not that means anything to anybody else but, it means a lot to me. There's a few minute pits is this one but, you'll probably never find them with a glass. I wanted to do something a little different in the way of a Bulldog and I came up with this. Granted not everyone is going to like it but, it don't matter cause I just might keep this one, maybe, we'll see. Anyhow, It measures about 6" in length, bowl's 2" high and  about 2-1/4" wide. Has a 7/8" chamber 1-1/2" deep. So here it is for your perusal.  

Yeah, and I forgot to sand the chamber after waxing, I'll take care of that Tuesday morn along with stamping it. :fpalm:

When I think "Road Dog," this motorcycle comes to mind. It is powered by a four cylinder, 152 cubic inch Chevy 11 “Iron Duke” engine with a Powerglide transmission.

This pipe is much easier on the eyes. Great work!

That's another mighty fine pipe Ron, it's huge and the grain is just lovely. I reckon it's almost a flying saucer, I'd be worried it might take flight whilst smoking it.

Ron, there's nothing I don't like about it.

The lines flow gracefully. The finish on the briar is like glass. The stem almost looks liquid. And the transition between the shank and stem is unique and well executed.

This is without a doubt your finest work so far amigo.

Thank you sir but, I really didn't mean it that way. What I meant, is it the shape, maybe because it's a little more modernized or would another shape be just as attractive because of the color and finish of the pipe? Would you have like it as much if it was a bent billiard?

So far you've shown an ability to find a shape of pipe that showcases the grain of the briar you are using in each pipe!! Not many folks really have THAT ability from much of what I've seen recently. And your stem work is absolutely THE BEST I have ever seen ! YOU sir, and your work truly deserve the appellation of ARTISON !! Keep it up and you'll be rewarded for your efforts by many !! :cheers: :cheers:

Hell Ron, I dunno how else to describe it. All the style elements are just there in spades. And ya, I just like 'doggys so that plays into it. And your signature stem work is much in evidence. Grain is great and pronounced. A complete package.

Thank you Riff The stamping process isn't really much. I had a stamp made out of steel rod stock and chucked it up in my drill press, made a felt padded stand to lay the shank of the pipe on and I just run the stamp down onto the shank and press.................I don't turn the drill press on of course.

Not quite as nice as my Big Rhodie but then I'm biased ​

Though I'm not a great fan of 'uneven' ended shanks with 'stick it in' stems as I think it's often done 'cause it's easy (and often with bought-in stems), I think this one really works and your stem-work is just frighteningly good.​

I'm smoking the Big Rhodie right now and if this one smokes as well as mine does then someone is going to get one hell of a pipe ​
