A world turned upside down

Yesterday my 19 yo daughter had to be taken to the ER. She wasn’t getting enough oxygen and her lips were blue. Crossing the room to get to the car to yo the hospital she collapsed. When the EMTs asked her where she was she said Laramie. I’m thinking ok she’s not too bad off. They then asked her who the POTUS was. “Mommy and Daddy are” oh crap! Not good. She continued to deteriorate as the day passed. She started having seizures and stopped communicating all together. After an MRI , CT scan and lumbar puncture they still had no idea what was going on. They decided they had better protect her airway so they intubated her and put her under heavy sedation so she wouldn’t be fighting them or scared. They flew her by chopper down to Loveland and are continuing testing. They still have no answers for us as yet. So we sit in limbo for now with no clue what is going to happen. At this point we don’t even know if she will live much less recover her mental faculties. All we know is she has sever encephalopathy. Her brain stem is swelling enough to cause seizures. Prayers are welcomed

They’re saying she’s stable with no real changes. However they stopped the sedative for awhile yesterday to run some of their tests and were able to get her to respond. That’s more than they were getting before they flew her down. So she’s still in there somewhere.

Stable with no real changes at least indicates she's not getting worse, and while that's not great at least it's better than the alternative. Those docs better get this figured out and her on the mend right now. Surely there must be some specialist that knows what's going on.

They are switching her sedative to one that will be easier on her when they go to bring her out of deep sedation. She responded to her aunts and nieces being there. The Dr’s are all confident she will come out of this. The bad news is that during one or more of her seizures she asperated fluids causing parts of her brain to be without oxygen for extended periods of time. So on top of it causing pneumonia she has brain damage. They have no way to know how bad it will be though until she’s actually ready to wake up. They also have no idea what happened. We were hoping it was caused by uremic encephalopathy but the nephrologist says no. So one day at a time. We will have to see how things go.
