I've always been amazed by the detail on some meers! Wish I had the abilty to carve like that! Nice meer you have!
 
Not my personal style, but well-executed. Its about as figural as a pipe can get and still be sort of a classic shape...I like that. More of a "theme," than a focus.
 

To me aside from the great smoking characteristics of meerschaum its the fact that it can be sculpted into great works of art and for many like myself that is the allure of the of the product.
If basic shapes is the only attraction, one only need to choose one of the many meerschaum lined pipes available on the market.

I recently saw a 1/4 bent Bulldog that I guy had been smoking Va Per blends in for over the past 20 yars and it had some of the most beautiful coloring I had seen on a Meer. I would'nt write off a standard shape for coloring :p
 
Wow, that looks great! It'll look incredible once it starts to color.
