I have had a figural meer that I have been smoking, and thought the brothers might be interested in the coloring of it. I have had this pipe since 1986 or so and smoke it with some regularity. It came without a case, and so it has gotten a little more abuse that the average meer just from being knocked around a little. It was a gift, and so I know nothing about it. It has a couple of spots where the color is mottled and a couple of places that have white flecks. This may just be the nature of meerschaum.

The newer figural "retriever and bird" has almost no hint of color yet, but I figure in 25 years...

Nice color!  I have two meers, both gifts brought back from Turkey by friends,  One is a very plain (and I imagine cheap) billiard and I've almost never smoked it.  My "retriever & bird" (as Fr puts it) I have smoked some but mine too has very little color.  I really don't smoke it often so I doubt I'll ever get it colored.

Nice pipe Tom. I think it has gained a good color. Though my preference is for a smooth billiard I must say that your pipe has an appeal. Continue to smoke it in good health my friend. :)

Interesting coloring pattern Fr_Tom. I've not seen a "figural" color in that manner before. Considering that Meer is a VERY porous material THAT block that it was carved from obviously had factors that caused it color from the bottom up. Of the two figurals I have, they have tended to start coloring from the outer areas back so to speak. Some of it also may have to do with the style of blend/mixture smoked in it over time. Keep at it

I will keep working on it. Maybe in another 20 years or so the whole thing will have colored. I am not the big meerschaum expert, and the ones I have are of indeterminate origin. I am not really sure what they are supposed to do. BoB has put me in contact with other people who have meerschaums.

I have smoked a wild variety of things in it over the years (well not THAT wild - ranging from Carter Hall to latakia blends). Of late it has been almost only VaPer's.

It did seem as if it might be of interest to someone, and I am a little curious to see some others now...

One thing's for sure: it's gonna color really nicely in the years to come.

I think mine was made by someone who knows who Altinok is. The different coloring characteristics of these pipes is interesting. I like the lines of yours...

The splotches on my pipe will darken up while Im smoking it. Then lighten back up after it sits for awhile. I dont let much cake build up in my bowl,Just enough to keep from damaging the bowl when I clean her. Unlike my briars, Where as I like the cake.
