Old thread but still fun. I have the same Remington 1911R1 as the OP except mine is stainless. It's a decent entry level 1911. I like mine although I'd love to have a higher end one someday. I also have a S&W model 642 .38 special in SS with coccobolo grips. Both are great handguns.

If you like pistols you are a 1911 fan. The 1911 is the standard if ya will.

I'd love to have the Springfield Armory Loaded 1911 :D

It would be a Just Cuz for fun gun though. If I were going to own just one handgun it would be the Glock 19 9mm, with the Sig P226 Navy coming in a close second. A 1911 would be only after the above two, if I still had any money left

I like the Springfield XD9 much better than the Glock.
Then I do like Ruger P series more than most of the higher end pistolas.

There is something to be said about a design that has been reliable for over a century. I love the 1911. I have a stainless steel Springfield. I named her Karina. She is one hell of a nice weapon. I took her boar hunting the other day. No kills, unfortunately.

For me the .45 handles very differently than a 9mm. I am far more accurate with most 9mm's but nothing beats the feel of a .45. I just need some more practice.
I've yet to name any of my guns lol. Maybe I'll name my .44 Big Bertha...Here's Big Bertha:
Last I went shooting with it I was able to hit a quarter from 10 yards.
44 Mags are great, I use to have a Stainless steel Virgina Dragoon 44 mag with 8-3/8" barrel. Could fire it one handed and hit my mark, the recoil was next to nothing being the large frame and barrel length. All I have now is my 45 long Colt, and the dog can still hunt.

My better half gifted me with a new Remington Stainless 45 auto for last Christmas. It's a sweet shooting rig for the money. I've owned Colt 45 Gold Cup's in the past, and sorry that I sold them. Isn't that always the case? Being of smaller stature I find the 45's too bulky to carry but my Colt Diamondback 38 with 2 1/2 inch barrel and smoothest action I've ever fired is a keeper.

I agree they are a bit bulky, I remember at the time I purchased the 44 the only holster they had in stock at the time was a shoulder holster so, reluctantly I got it. Needless to say the 8-3/8" barrel didn't help because with a jacket on it still hung down so low my jacket couldn't hide it. There certainly not a pocket pistol and I use to get ribbed all the time about it. Like "Hey, you forget to bring the wheels for that canon?"
