anyone have a smoking jacket or robe they normally use? Saw a picture of old mr Hef when i was looking up famous pipe smokers and it got me curious. :?:

Ditto - I have the same kind - Mine is too thick to wear in the summer :) So, it's a winter-smoking-jacket.

I get to use the fire place about once a year if I'm lucky here on the coast but I love it when i sit in front of a warm fire on a cold night with my robe and a full pipe.

Hehe! I built myself a quasi-man cave by putting a cloth covered gazebo on the deck. Now I'm building a patio where I'm going to put a fire pit. I look forward to the cold weather so I can sit outside and smoke in my smoking jacket. :) LOL

Indeed; my normal late night smoking jacket is a bathrobe as well!!! Around 1975 my wife bought me a nice dark brown lightweight robe with blue dots as the design, and said I should use it as my smoking jacket in my den. While it was quite nice, it was also made of polyester, so you know what happened everytime a piece of hot ash spilled onto the robe: a hole!! That's why my "smoking robe" now is cotton !!!

A smoking jacket only counts if you have the “Old Money” ‘ New Port RI estate to go with it...

Don't have any old money :D But I do have an old smoking jacket made of pure silk that belonged to my father in law from the 1940's.
And I have worn it on special occasions, the last time was a New Year's Eve Party.

A great keepsake for sure! I do know they are not easy to come by these days.

My friends got me this for my birthday last month. I think they meant it as a gag gift, but what the hey. My house can get a bit chilly in the winter and it sure beats my ratty old bathrobe. I think I'm almost old and eccentric enough to get away with this look. Now I just need an ascot. And maybe a monocle...

Sharp.

I use a fluffy Billabong zip-up hoodie jacket. It's a little youthful looking for my general taste, and like most things made these days, it's a piece of crap. It has lots of pockets and gets the job done, though!

I'd love to get a proper smoking jacket.

On a side note, Kyle, that just happens to be the Nording I found after you spurred me to search for The Lost Kaplan Pipes. Stem could still use some work, I see. Damn camera flash shows all our imperfections.

Too cool! I want one. And you are correct, Sir; a monocle is a must to complete the look!

Cool! I can hope any of my wacky observations might lead someone down a path that makes 'em happy!

You do, in fact, need a monocle. 8)

I have a jacket that I only wear for smoking. When I'm having a tough day just walking by where it hangs and get a whiff of the aroma can put a smile on my face. It is funny, that whenever I am seen by family wearing that jacket, they all know what I'm off to do (or returned from).
