It appears that I might be spending much of this summer in these three countries, and would appreciate any background info you might have if you've traveled or worked in any of them. Not so interested in tobacco shops, (I"ll carry all I need) but rather the culture, experiences, advice, etc.

Have you watched any of the "weird food" shows to see what kind of crazy things they eat there. :)

Out of curiosity, do you have to get a series of shots?

Yea, although I travel rather regularly in the developing world and tropical jungles, so I keep up to date on most shots. But their's always something unique to each place I'll probably need to get a shot for.

Jeff,

All I know is that in Singapore, they still whip rednecks from Arkansas when they get out of line.

Sorry Natch I can't help you all my time was spent in Laos, Thailand, and Viet Nam. The only friendly critters were in Thailand. Have a great time. MIKE

All I can tell you is that Malaysia and Indonesia are Islamic, Singapore mostly Buddhist..
Singapore use to be part of the Malaysian empire (not the right term, more like a joining of several nations, maybe Confederacy is a better term) but was kicked out. Singapore has some bad arse high tech military muscle, a conglomerate of ours, theirs, and Englands best.

I may be mistaken but I believe all three are similar in government to us, well more similar to England, but a 'westerner' wouldn't feel to out of place. English is widely spoken and is even an official language of Malasia??? or maybe it is Singapore... one or the other.

None of this is first had, just news articles, tv, etc etc.. I think of the three Malaysia is the one I'd most want to visit, a huge nation spread across the oceans.. like the Bahamas but with Jungle instead of Beaches.. at least thats what i get off of the travel channel.
And yes I figure you already know all this.. but like Mike said, Keep your ducks in a row or they will kick your Arkansas ass... Kinda like the Wildcats are known to do.

I've been to all three, but it was back when I was in the Navy, in the 80's. I wouldn't want to speculate about the conditions there now, though. I do remember, I enjoyed my time in all three, and the beer was good.
