Back on the briar, Matches for some favorites?

Gentlemen,

I had walked away from serious pipe smoking for a year or two, I still smoked once in a while, and never lost my love for the leaf. That being said, I have been smoking a lot more lately, and my stock is running a little thin. Upon looking for some of my favorites, I have found that they are essentially unavailable! The old standby's gone, ne'er to return. Can you good folks recommend suitable matches for any of the below blends?

Dunhill Nightcap
Dunhill Early Morning Pipe
Dunhill Elizabethan Mixture
Mcclelland Oriental Mixture #6
Mcclelland Christmas Cheer

Also any recommendations for other blends readily available to try?

Thanks guys. I guess my question was poorly articulated, I saw that there were some matches, and was interested in peoples experience with how they stack up to the originals. I will give some of them a shot, and see for myself and report back!

Here’s a link to the review listings for Sutliff.  Go down to the Match headers and see what others have posted.  Many of us use the Review Site heavily.  Many of us have reviews listed.  It’s well worth reading through.

Pay particular attention to “JimInks”, “DrT999” and “fr_tom”.  JimInks especially posts a great many reviews here and elsewhere...all three are knowledgeable and respected members.

BH is spot on in his advice.

Only issue I can see is the replacement for any McC blend. Those folks had some very specific standards for growing, processing, and blending, plus much else. In many cases, those same varieties of 'baccy are no longer grown for various reasons. And the expertise to process them is also fast becoming a lost art. Much too labor intensive these days with much training required.

All to say that any and all suggested replacements for any McC blend so far have been lacking in one way or another. It is what it is.....

Yup...who’s going to ever find replacements for the vast array of styles, components and fabrication methods of McClelland blends. It is quite literally beyond possible. More’s the pity.

Maybe aged 515-RC-1 would bring it closer to 5100. There is the poor man's Frog Morton out there. I blended it up once. No ketchup smell being poor mans but it smoked very similar. I can look in my notes if anyone is interested.

Oh wow!  Now there’s a recipe whose components I didn’t expect to see. Interesting.  Really interesting.

I would never have expected to mix a flat out aromatic with an English.  It gives me some ideas about blending up something like a Gawith stinky (in a good way) blend.

I’m thinking of something with a Stonehaven scent profile...Esoterica Ramsgate.  IMHO it’s like Esoterica’s aro version of Stonehaven.  So blending it with something brutal might soften the brute while making the Ramsgate more serious.  

So...50% Esoterica Ramsgate + 50% Gawith Dark Flake Unscented to start With? I’m not sure I still have any truly unscented Dark Flake though.  Some time ago I put all my Dark Flake into one storage container so the scented would merge into the unscented.  Well, I’ll look around a bit and see what I can find.

Edit 1.  Found Dark Plug Unscented & mixed a 15gm sample of the DPlug+Ramsgate 50:50 blend.  I’ll let ya know if it’s even slightly worthy.

Edit 2. While mowing the back forty in a bendy Cob...slightly worthy is the thing. Both components are more special by themselves as opposed to mixed. It was fine, but not Super dee Duper special...IMHO.
