I've been looking at Barling and would like to get a vintage, but they are hard to date even after reading Pipepedia. Anyone have any experience with various periods of Barlings?
Nice pipe! I can see part of the logo looks like maybe Barlings is not in block letters like some. Does it say Barlings Make and any number on it? Thanks
in the late 60's early 70's I had a buddy that was a Barling freak. He had 20-30 of them. They were all lovely...and smoking fools. He loved barlings. This was back when all barlings were red. Wish I had talked him out of one.
Maybe I'm wrong because I've never dug deep into British briar, though I was surrounded by guys who did, but Barling always seemed like a very confusing, quasi mystical deal. The dating came across like a nightmare. Am I wrong about that?
That's what I get from reading up on them. I'd still buy one mainly if it was from when the family owned the company. Think those will be rare. I'd chance a newer one if someone thinks they smoke good but needs to be cheap.
