Sort of a funny story to relate. My avatar reflects the beard I used to sport. Last month, while on call, I was taking a patient out of the scanner, and had him sitting up and was talking to him. Well, he stopped responding, and his eyes rolled up and I knew what was next, yup you guessed it, he had a seizure. So, I laid him down on the scanner table, and was turning him on his side to protect his airway. Somehow his left hand got caught up in my beard and he was tweaking it pretty hard and his other hand was whacking me upside the left side of my head. Man, I wish I had a video, it had to look funny as hell. Needles to say, I decided to shave. It took a year and a half to grow, and 10 mins to shave off :)Here is an older pic of my hairless mug......

I may grow one back, I may not. Seems too many people are sporting facial hair these days, and I may just buck the trend :)

Great mental picture - just laughed out loud!!!

Shame you had to lose the fuzz, though.

On the upside it knocks years off ya!

NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!  :(

We will all mourn your loss.

I assume you will be growing back the beard post haste? ;)

I have shaved mine off before, but it does not last long. I have a heavy beard that grows quickly and moles to avoid with the razor, etc. It is too much work to keep the smooth face, and after 30+ years of marriage, my wife is used to it. I am sure you miss the added insulation in the frosty environment up there. Your side job as a dept. store Santa may be in jeopardy.

Ya look like a 30 year old again. :D  I shaved mine but, left the mustache and feel alot better and, well, to me look a bit better not to mention younger. Although maybe grow the mustache back, that way at least your upper lip will be warm. ;)

What a tragic occurrence, cannot say I blame you for shaving off the beard, I know that decision came hard on you.

Feels pretty weird, doesn't it. I've been bearded most of my adult life, and in rare, clean-shaven times I can't stop touching my face. I had a two-year growth once that I shaved off completely. I reversed the before and after photos and posted them here on someone's thread for "No-Shave November"  :p

I would never guess that pic is of you sans beard fatty. Looks like a whole different person altogether!

As for me, well I've had a full beard pretty much continually since I was 17. Only took it all off twice in my life and quickly re-grew it, although I did sport a goatee and stash for a few years before they became fashionable. Didn't much care for that either.

On the plus side removing it makes me look 20 yrs younger and perhaps I need all the help I can get at 61! Yet my face gets so cold that way I can't stand it. Plus I hate shaving.

Gotta say that beard you had was a fine one. Hope you will grow it out again someday.

Cheers,

RR

John, I'm so sorry circumstances led to you shaving your beard. Your persona has definitely changed. I like beards so I'm hoping you will allow it to grow back. I've had mine continuously for 40+ years and have no intention of shaving it off until I reach my 100th birthday and even then there's a very good chance I'll keep it.  :)

You ain't gonna look right in that red suit come december.

I had a moustache for years. I shaved it once and my youngest kid got scared and cried so I grew it back. Got a face for radio, I guess. Now I'm clean shaven after 30 years of having some form of permanent facial hair. Heck, I'm old, I don't care anymore. Besides, it's fun to scare the kids now.

You look great John, utterly and completely different, but great.

I bounce back and forth between beard and clean shaven, it's always quite a tweak to shave after sporting a beard months on end.

I had a full beard ( not as long as yours, more Hemingwayesque) for the last two years and shaved it off except for the stash which I've had since I was in 'Nam, as it made me look older than I am. It's one thing to BE older something else to LOOK older IMHO    I do think it took at least 20 years off of you. Looks GOOD !!

Shucks! You're still wet behind the ears. Wait till you get to be my age...   :)

I refuse to believe that's the same person.

Until you can show me a side-by-side before-and-after, along with video footage of the shaving process, I have no choice but to treat you as a Fatman Imposter!

I certainly hope you do. My Social Security needs your continued support.

I'm about 15 minutes away from a clean shave after two years of a full beard. Job interview tomorrow, going for the "clean cut" look. Funny that this thread popped up.

Looking good John!

Any facial hair on my face is generally due to indifference. It gets shaved eventually.
