The wheels of hiring are moving slowly. Sometimes I forget I usually work for myself and have an uncanny comfort for getting things done immediately. Oh, larger company, don't be such a tease. Your six hours of orientation videos and safety protocol leaves me yearning.

I'll settle for "this week" sometime at this point! 8)

Kyle - Congrats!

Did the gig work out?

Sending good thoughts your way.

Martin

Well, on a roll today, did the paperwork, they accepted my salary request in an official offer letter, I do drug testing, physical and all the paperwork bullpucky throughout the next week!

It ain't full-time, but it's somethin'!

Glad to hear it. My wife has a big job interview coming up in IL, and I'm not sure where it's going to go. We live in NC, so it would be a big deal to move, etc. etc.

Life is always interesting, to say the least.

The down side to the new gig:

...I had to give up my coffee roasting job. There was just no way I could be on-call with the new company and have a set schedule with what I considered a fun job--one that paid next to nothing but was awesome. Luckily the new job will also be quite fun and pay a hell of a lot more, and be in-line with my budding career.

That is life!

The discounts were "Here, have a batch of the stuff you roasted, if it sucks, you're stuck with it too, Weiss." Good incentive to make it tasty.

When does your wife go in for the interview?

This sucks. Who else is going to respond to my malarkey posts in 45 seconds or less and make me spit out a sandwich through my nose due to laughter? You know you can be a REAL selfish prick sometimes. :bounce:

Alright, I was just posturing. *extends congratulatory hand*

Yeah, yeah, good luck, godspeed, etc.

Just foolin, bro! Drill'em, fill'em, and bill'em, my friend!

You ain't gettin' rid of me that easily, work or no work... 8)

...anyway, I have to aim for something more insidious than sandwiches, like hotwings or something.

Okay, so--leave it to me to have a weird day.

I finally got a date for orientation for this job, which was 8:30AM. I'm up at 6:15AM, smoked a pipe, had some tea, was greeted by 3" of snow (not such a bad thing, except when you're in Nevada, where snow turns driving idiots into superidiots)...

...so it was a brilliant morning, watching the sun pull color into the clouds, wind making neat snow-filled eddies, getting ready and out of the house by 7:45AM with plenty of time to get there (I detest being tardy...)...

...yeah right. This is Weiss we're talking about. Even after confirming with not one, but TWO radio stations, the major Interstates are clear, 80 and 395. Do I get clear roads? No, it took me 45 minutes to get halfway to my new job. Of course I called, there was nothing I could do. In addition to the 2 MPH traffic (and standstills), they just to weeks ago closed off the major exits to the side streets for construction: which meant, I was f'ed, and trapped in the crawl.

I get to the interchange, went from going east to going south. Dead standstill. There's morons that have spun out all over the place, and I end up spending the next thirty MORE minutes helping dipshits get ouf of their own mess. The cops and I had a great time talking crap about all the people with bald, "sporty low-profile" and otherwise snow-inappropriate (no chains, no spikes) tires, and it was either that or sit there until the road cleared. I was not stuck. I have an old 4Runner. I know how to drive. So, helping out was better. I used burlap bags from coffee roasting I saved in my truck for traction for folks.I roll into my orientation an hour and a half late.

They didn't care. One guy didn't show up until 11AM. Needless to say, they thought I was awesome.

Chaos seems to follow me many places, but it's always an adventure. Three inches of snow screws this town up, but it didn't get me down. Hooray, new job! Hopefully I'll get some calls, considering I'm on-call. Maybe I'll go to the first contract I'm selected for and have to pull out a bunch of puppies from a burning motor home when THAT day happens...

Sounds like North Texas when it snows up here :p Dallas just bought it's FIRST snowplows EVER this summer and of coarse not a speck of frozen parcipitation this winter yet !! :p Last year they had a 50 year record snow fall during the Super Bowl and now all the "news" folks are having a field day with the amt. of money they spent on them!! It's the usual "... damned if ya do, damned if ya don't" BS :p

The difference is, Texas isn't supposed to get snow. We get cold, too. The problem is the influx if (insert pejorative term) Californians that are caught seemingly by surprise, and whom I suspect half thought when they moved here, their entitled selves figured their sun and weather would move with them--I mean, why wouldn't it?

Also, starting MSHA training this week... oh joy.

One MSHA training class down, tomorrow to go, and I'll be "safety certified!" Whatever the eff that means.

They're lucky I don't go in there with a flask. What an endurance run this part is. Funniest part, I'm getting paid full-wage for this wacky stuff, and I doubt I'll set foot on an actual working mine site this year... hey, their money is now mine...I may buy a pipe with it.

TIGER BLOOD WINNING!

Did you say flask? You better hand that over, young fella!
