I always shied away from natural finish pipes but after seeing yours, I may just go for one.

Wow, that looks wonderful a year down the road. And I might add, that you sir are quite careful with the light!

I've seen a few Il Ceppo's, not very frequently, but they certainly struck me as classically handsome. Interesting info on this brand Sas, thanks!

It's funny that you should mention that!
I do try to be very careful when lighting, and especially so with this pipe. My other smooth version of this pipe has not fared as well, with a little dark spot on the rim.
Oh well...

Another interesting aspect of a pipe - some get dark on the rim while a few don't, no matter how consistent and careful that I strive to be when lighting.

Boy do you know how to keep a rim clean harlock. Mine are always charred a little bit.

I use matches!
And I've still managed to toast a rim or two...

Matches do hell on the pipes I've tried. Bics seem the softest for me.

You must have good lighting technique. My father destroyed a gorgeous La Strada Rhodesian I had gifted him. When I pointed at the mess he'd made his reply:"I have a son (meaning me) who will fix it".

No way I could without draconian refinishing.

Softest mechanical light for me, still a Zippo. Matches the best.

Its not the fire of the match that gets me but the burnt stick left over while I try to light.

Harlock that is really cool. To track the process. Looks like it really colored up nicely and evenly. That's a killer blast on it too.

I seem to burn myself too much with a bic. I'm okay with butane if it is a pipe lighter.
