It's a very sad day folks. Mr.Dunhill John Loring passed away yesterday after a short illness. John was THE authority on Dunhill pipes having written a famous dating guide as well as numerous online blogs on his website about the company's history. One of his biggest accomplishments was the tedious job of copying every Dunhill catalog from the begining of the company through the 60's and publishing them in four huge bound volumes. It's an amazing set that has been sadly sold out for many years.

Thank you John for your dedication to our hobby. A bowl of 2001 Memphisto in a Dunhill billiard in your good honor!

Wow! RIP John :pipe:

Popped a 2006 tin of Dunhill London Mixture :pipe:

John certainly was a very nice and helpful person. I had the opportunity to speak to him a couple of times when he was helping me date a very old container of Dunhill American Blend tobacco that I picked up in an antique shop. I always throughly enjoy reading his material. He will be missed!

I am very sorry about the loss of John Loring. He was always very helpful to me when I called him to ask about Dunhills that I came across, and I love his Dunhill dating guide. Does anyone know what is illness was? I hate to pry, but I didn't know he was ill.

I am sorry on hearing of Johns passing.

I had the pleasure of spending some time with him at several Milwaukee pipe shows and always felt that I came away a better person for the experience.

He will be missed by his friends as well as those in the pipe world who only knew him by virtue of his experience and sharing in this hobby of ours.

Just returned from a 10-day "no computer/email/TV, etc." sabbatical on the North Carolina Outer Banks. I am truly shocked to hear of John's passing. I have traded phone calls and emails with him over several years. A true gentleman in all respects. :( :( FTRPLT
