All,

Does anyone know of a baccy that can be purchased in bulk that tastes similar to Escudo? It doesn't need to be a coin or flake cut, I'm happy with ribbon but would like something that tastes akin.

Main reason I'm asking is that I seem to have more luck getting bulk buys through customs here than tins.

Thanks,

Tim

Tim, I've never heard of ANY tobacco being close to Escudo in bulk, wish there was.
In fact I don't believe there's any thing close at all. Now DDNR Dunhill Deluxe Navy Rolls is comparable (Not the Same) and there now is a new kid on the block that I've heard tastes a lot like DDNR and his name is P. Heinrick's Curly Block but, it literally is impossible for us to get in the states Dad burn it. But, it's not bulk either.

Cartaphilus is correct. No Escudo bulk or anything close.

Now if your looking for something similar, try Peter Stokkebye's Luxury Bullseye Flake. When I say similar I mean they are about as similar as Marmite and Vegemite. I hope that helps.

What he said......

Maybe LBF with a few years in a jar might be close though. It definitely has potential

Thanks gents, I'll get some LBF next order and try it out. I've been enjoying my VA and VA/Per bacs a lot lately with Escudo my number one currently.

Cheers

Tim

Rattray's Old Gowrie is not that far removed from Escudo, and is readily available. It has the same components, but falls more to the tart side of Escudo. With age the gap widens, however.

Others have mentioned LBF, and I would rate that on the smoother, sweeter side of Escudo, but again, not that far off. That's almost always available, too.

Those are the only two that come to mind that I'd reach for if I absolutely had to have the closest thing to Escudo in bulk.

That's a tough one Timbo as Escudo is pretty much in a class of its own. Dunhill's Navy Rolls is close but I've never seen it in bulk.

Yet more baccy added to my list of must buys, thanks again peeps. Keen to try the Dunhill rolls, if they're anywhere near the quality of the Durbar I picked up recently, they'll be awesome.

Thanks all

Tim

Buy the Davidoff tins for awhile then jump back to the Escudo. Ta-Da, Escudo tins now seem exceedingly affordable. :lol!:
Escudo<$10, Davidoff>$11 currently at smokingpipes.com

Personally, I did prefer the Davidoff to Escudo. Davidoff has the Cavendish so maybe that's what I'm after. Still need to try DDNR and the PS stuff before I claim to have really educated myself on the genre.

Never found Escudo to be all that impressive myself despite how some folk rant about it like it is Gods gift to pipe smokers, PS-LBF is an excellent tobacco in its own right but I don't find it to be even similar to Escudo which is a good thing in my opinion, PS-LBF is a very good cheap smoke if that's something you could make use of.

I happen to like Escudo a lot. It's a smooth smoke, with good flavor that's not in your face. I'm glad I tried it, and it'll have a place as one of my regular smokes. It'd be nice if it was available in bulk, but the tins aren't that expensive. Particularly when compared with Dunhill Navy Rolls.

Oh don't get me wrong, I like it well enough just don't feel it deserves the raves some folk attribute to it is all, each to his own chap is my belief. :sunny:

Could be said of any tobacco I guess. I have several I like, and wouldn't want to give any of them up. ;)
