Does anybody know if the date of tinning is stamped on the bottom on the Butera tins?? Like the GLP cans have on them...

I picked up a tin of Royal Vintage Blended Flake from a local B&M stamped 262004. If this means 2/6/2004 I'm going to be impressed and go back for the rest, LOL. :albino:

Thanks all!

no, you've got it backwards,,,Butera doesn't want that tin opened until 04/20/2026,,,,:D

The Royal Vintage line is manufactured by McClelland (look at the side of the label and you will see TP - MO, which stands for Missouri, plus a manufacturer tax number), so you are (partially) right in this case: the tin was packed in 2004. For McClelland, the first four digits do not refer to to a date/month, but are rather internal blend/batch codes.

Dating the Butera tins made on the other side of the pond is a different matter entirely.

According to my spreadsheet, a 50g. tin of 2004 Butera RV Blended Flake is worth $23.12 retail (i.e., the price you would expect to pay on eBay or from S. Fallon or such like), although in my experience it does not age well (due to the Oriental leaf).

Kap, you're a genius!! Thanks.

They had a few tins stamped 2004 down there including some Pelican so maybe I'll just go back and get 'em... 8)
