Another sample I am trying from my buddy. Engine #99 is a English blend featuring Latakia and Perique. This is definitely a full bodied English blend and is bolder then Dunhill London Mixture. Burns well and is great on first strike of the bowl to the end. I am adding this to my always on hand list. Recommended for English blend lovers.

Enjoying another bowl of Engine #99. Yesterday I did a back to back of Engine #99 and Dunhill London Mixture. I have to say, between the two, I would pick Engine #99. Maybe do London Mixture as a morning smoke but I am becoming a big fan of this blend.

Interesting that I also find London Mixture to have become my preferred alternate to Engine 99 lately. I still prefer the C&D blend (closely followed by their #973- Cordial) but the Dunhill is a good smoke.
I've not tried the other C&D blends in the bulk series - Odessa, Red Odessa - unless Star of the East or maybe Byzantium also fall in that class) - but I intend on doing so eventually

Not knocking Dunhill London Mixture. It has been a go to tin for years and years. It definitely has changed as blenders have changed but good stuff all the same. Engine #99 just kind of grabbed me in the boo-boo. Flavors were more pronounced.

I should also add I was a strong cigar smoker too. Smoke a lot of Cain F's which is why I smoke pipe tobacco more as after a lot of Cain F's, everything tasted like leather, including water. A lot more variety IMHO of flavor profiles in pipe tobacco then cigars.

I like 99 and SOTE (and Cordial) but SOTE Flake even more.

The Engine and Penzance are my two favorite smokes. I just received a new Sav Hercules yesterday and I'm breaking it in tonight with Engine 99. Hard to find a better blend to crank up a new bowl. My appreciation always to my friend Aristokles for introducing me to Engine 99 several years ago.

I love engine 99 for it's complex taste, low nicotine, and the fact that I can smoke it while working outside and not worry about how hard I might puff on it. It has the same great taste no matter what I do. If I had to pick a favorite right now that's it.

I also am very fond of Cordial (#973), especially in the morning. I've tried many C&D blends but have settled on these two.
