I know a few like this blend, and as a cigar smoker I was anxious to give it a shot. I picked up a tin last September and my initial reaction was was not very good (more on that later) so I set it aside. I tried against yesterday with similar results. I find Purple Cow to be a mediocre blend and just don't get much of anything from it. I don't taste the cigar leaf, and there is a faint note of lat, but for the most part I'm getting straight burley. The odd thing is that every time I smoke this blend (4-5 times now) I have felt sick by the end of the bowl. I've smoked some fairly heavy duty blends and my taste in cigars is to the far end of full bodied yet I have never found myself on the verge of puking. I don't find Purple Cow to be exceptionally strong or offensively flavored, but it some how triggers this reaction in me. I'm curious if anyone else has experienced this with a specific blend when similar blends are no problem.

Interesting. Maybe it has too much propylene glycol in that particular blend. But cigars have it too, and they don't do that to you. I've felt a little ill, a couple of times, while smoking a pipe. I assumed it was indigestion but I'll pay more attention if it happen to me again.

Not really. There are only so many types of tobacco, so I'm wondering if it could be a flavoring ingredient that your system objects to. To the extent of my knowledge, propylene glycol is harmless, one reason it's used everywhere. I didn't know C & D used it, anyhow. I have ODed on nicotine, as I will if I smoke 5 Brothers or some similar throat scorcher. (No, I don't inhale.) Many chewing tobaccos will do this to me, in particular one called WB Cut or something. I would toss it and never look back regardless of cause.

C&D does not use PG on their tobaccos. According to the Tarler's, they only distilled water is used in their processing.

C&D's Burley can be pretty rugged, both in tobacco flavor strength and nicotine strength. One doesn't exactly need to smoke a bowl of Old Joe Krantz or Haunted Bookshop to feel its kick.

Give GLP's Robusto a try. No Burley but it does have a good amount of Oriental tobacco in it as well as some excellent cigar leaf, VA, and latakia. Key Largo is nice too.

Thanks for the input guys. I wasn't really thinking of additives, and then know C&D are known for quality products. Maybe it is the burley, or possibly the maduro plus burley. I'll give the GLP Robusto a shot.

Nope, emphatically, Cornell & Diehl does not us propylene glycol in any of their blends.

Now that said, that doesn't mean that ALL of their blends are copacetic to every smoker.

This blend didn't work for you.

Move on.

There is not more than a few bowls left (I'm really stubborn) but you are welcome to it.  PM me an address and I'll put it in the mail this weekend.
