Anyone else catch "Celebration Day" the new Zeppelin concert film? It opened last week in NYC and today in area theaters. I was up on NJ and caught the movie at a Secaucus theater. Excellent film and show. Robert can still sing and Jason Bonham filling in on drums is outstanding. They changed a few things in songs where Robert wouldn't have to hit the super high notes, but they were still great. Only downside was the theater had the sound down too low for the first song. I'll get this on on Blu-Ray DVD, should sound great in 7.1.

Last year, I caught Jason Bonhams "Led Zeppelin Experience" show. That was also excellent and if he tours in your area, don't miss it. The band he has assembled does Zeppelin far better than well, Zeppelin...

Led Zeppelin is my all time favorite band. Thanks for the heads up Al!!

Yeah, Jimmy is getting old, but you can't see it in his guitar work.

Here is Jason's website, if you are interested in that show:

Thanks Al. Their here on 11/17. I may be going. Gonna see if the wife wants to go. She is a hug Led Zeppelin fan as well.

Just bought the tickets. Going on the 17th! Front row on the balcony. Thanks for the heads-up Al.

I promise to where earplugs Jack!!! :D

Tinitus is not a joke. As a pro drummer I thought my musical life would be over when I started getting pain in my ears. Sounds that weren't that loud were affecting me in every day life. I started wearing earplugs to gigs and to any loud social setting and thank God the pain went away. I still wear the earplugs but they're custom made so I don't look like a total idiot. :clown:

I had a chance to go to the O2 show but passed since money was tight at the time. Yes, yes, yes, I've been kicking myself as I knew I pro'lly would. I'm happy they're finally releasing the video. Took them long enough! Jason's a damn fine drummer in his own right. I wish I was old enough to see LZ in the good 'ol days. For those of you who did see them back then, you're lucky.

Thanks for the heads up Al! Can't wait to get the DVD!

Just got back from watching Jason Bonhams "Led Zeppelin Experience" show. To reiterate what Al stated earlier - if you get a chance to catch this show, do yourself a favor and go. It was a fun and powerful show. Well worth the time and money. The only down side is that it wasn't longer. I could have stayed all night and listened to them. Way to many great Zeppelin songs and never enough time to play them all.
Thanks for the suggestion Al!!

I'm glad you enjoyed it Mo! (and not surprised) The DVD comes out shortly, I have that on my Christmas wish list from the Mrs. I heard they now re-showing this movie, so others should have a chance to see it on the big screen.

Got it on pre-order!

I saw the concert at 02 Arena in London 11 December, 2007. A great concert by a great band. 28 years earlier (1979) I saw Led Zep with Bonzo on drums at the Knebworth Rock Festival August 1979.

We have been waiting close to 5 years for this video and CD album. Jimmy Page has made a good job. :)

I'd love to see Jasons "Experience" again. Chatting with folks at that show, he changes the playlist quite frequently. The guy doing the lead singing is also incredible.

Another Zeppelin show I can heartily recommend is Randy Jacksons show with a major city orchestra. I saw the show in Baltimore. He does an amazing job with the vocals and backed by an orchestra, it is very powerful.

To say I'm jealous is an understatement. To see them live twice...amazing!

I received Celebration Day the other day. It is the best $20 I have ever spent. I got the DVD/CD package. The DVD of the concert was magnificant! I could only imagine what it was like to be there in person.

Also envious. Led Zeppelin was scheduled to play the Capital Center (Washington DC) in December 1980 and Bonham died at the end of December. My buddy's father worked at the Cap Center and had secured $19 tickets for us. We were bummed and wanted our $19 back. I sure would love to still own that ticket, for the concert that never was.

First saw the Zep at the Midwest Rock Fest back in '69. Just a few weeks short of Woodstock. This was between the release of the first album and Zep II..

It was held at the State Fair Park in West Allis, WI. That's basically a 'burb to Milwaukee.

It was general seating at the horse track, and Zep were the headliners of the show that day.

I had contented myself with seats in the stands for the shows that day, but found myself pushing into the crush in the area close to the stage when Zep came on. Probably 20' away on the track opposite the stage. On the dirt track ground!

What a show it was! That was when Page was using a violin bow and echo on "Dazed and Confused". This was ground breaking stuff back then!

Being as I was a budding 16 yr old lead guitarist I was.......mesmerised.........

:affraid:

The show was fantastic. Plant hit all the high notes and I walked away suitably impressed!

Saw them next just after they released Zep II at the Milwaukee Arena/Auditorium. '70 iirc. They led off with "Immigrant Song" and Plant was in his prime. Had seats within 25' of the stage.

Always remember Page in this show. He wore his Les Paul down around his knees, and had to bend over to play it! He also blew the solo on "Whole Lotta Love" and had a smirk on his face when he did it!

Guess I can forgive that.........

:afro:

Cheers,

RR
