I'm looking at a Charatan on ebay that was made (I think) for a German tobacco shop, and the CP logo is in red rather than the white I'm used to seeing. Does that color have some significance, or could some color rubbed off a polishing wheel?

I've never heard tell of a red CP logo on a Charatan... You could be right about the stain being smeared over it by buffing. But I don't know...

Natchie, I'm 99.9% sure that the Charatan logo was always white. I've looked through a half dozen Charatan catalogs from the 50's through the 70's and found nothing with a red logo. It's also possible that it was the lighting/flash of the camera or the image was altered somehow when the seller used one of the "auto adjust" features on a site like photobucket.

I HAVE A 1927 PARKER FULL BENT ODA with a white spot on the stem! Wonder how that happened.

Come on guys! It was for an EAST German shop, so naturally the logo is red, as in "Red Commie Bast--ds"

Thanks for the help, guys. I won it, so it should be in my sweaty, little paws soon and I'll take a closer look. According to the description, it was made in the later 1980s?
