Cobs

I felt that way for years. I didn't want to look like a "rube" smoking a cob. Now I see it as a type of "pipe pageantry", a persona I embrace while I'm smoking. More down to earth than my mood when I'm smoking something I feel is more formal, sophisticated, scholarly, or sage. My pipe selection is highly influenced by the impression I want to project or the way I want to feel while I'm smoking. I suppose you could call it a form of "cosplay".

Thanks Singed I had to look up "rube" not a saying I have heard ever but will stow it in the vault for future possible use. Love it

I have a bent square-shanked Irvin Cobb from the (guessing here) 1930s-1950s that smokes so well and feels so weightless that, if a fire broke out, I'd grab it before 80% of my briars. Mind you, my briars mostly aren't top quality but still.

Smoking pipes has some nice ones. Much better with these stems.

I found and bought a NOS of one of this brand on eBay. It isn't square shanked, but is a large cob. Sounds like from some forum discussions these were good quality cobs.

@arich52 I have found that acrylic stems make an enormous impact on my enjoyment of cob pipes.

I've been reading up on them, and here is a link that describes the corn varieties. I tried to get some of the seeds and emailed MM directly, but the response was they are no longer available.
