I am thinking of ordering a Stanwell Nanna Iverson. Any particular finish or color that stands out from the rest? Thanks.

BUY IT HUNTER!!!!! Awesome shape, lightweight, generous tobacco chamber, great smoker! Bargin priced!

I would go with the sandblast or semiblast. Not sure if they have it in a rusticated finish. Avoid smooths to avoid fills, if they bother you...

I absolutely love my pair and will buy a couple of more soon....

Have you seen the Europe only version? You can get it through Esterval's in Germany or any number of other European sellers. I've had mine for 8 months and love it...

I have two of them--a black blast and a brown blast with a smooth rim. Aesthetically, I'd go with the brown blast. I saw a smooth "flawless" once and it was gorgeous, rare, pricey, all rolled into one.

But I'm not sure that I'd heartily recommend this particular pipe. I like it, and I don't regret buying the two I have, but the pipe's design can be a little troublesome. The weight, not surprisingly, is very much toward the bowl, almost to the point where I'd say the pipe lacks balance. If you're a clencher, fugedaboutit. And the pipe bowl is drilled at an angle that can be a bit annoying at times. The biggest issue, though, is how the thin the wood is at the heal of the pipe. I find it tends to get quite hot.

That said, the Nanna is a fun occasional smoke, but not something that will ever be a regular for me. But it sure is pretty.

I love the brown partially-rusticated. It reminds me of the double-chocolate donut at Dunkin.

Frost, I got mine from Bisgaard, and dealing with them has always been hassle-free in my experience.

Interestingly, the pipe in the link I posted has changed. Now, instead of the shape we are used to seeing there is a 9mm nanna design "stump" shape....which of course I instantly decided I must also buy at some point. I think it was a sign from the pipe gods or something.

Edit: Ooooh...and there is an "Egg" shape too. Curse the pipe gods...they are trying to destroy me with temptation:

Those are pretty sweet. Do they only come in a 9mm filter version? I prefer non filter pipes but for the price I may have to make an exception! Do you use the filter with yours Doc?

I've got one that I ordered from Bisgaard as well. Their service was excellent and I would order from them again. I had several questions that I asked via email, and all my inquiries were answered promptly. I bought a smooth, dark brown, in the original shape. (Those are some cool new shapes, Frost, especially the egg!) I REALLY like it, though I would agree with Beaupipe's criticism that this pipe is kind of "weight forward." I find clinching it to become a bit uncomfortable after a few minutes or so. Perhaps a better way of putting it would be that this pipe does not clinch as well as some of my other pipes; you CAN clinch it, of course. But this pipe smokes VERY well, with a wide open draw, smokes cool, and has perhaps (shape wise) the best hand feel of all my pipes. I do not notice the heel smoking hot (as Beaupipe did) from my pipe. This is one of my favorite pipes; if your are considering buying one, I say go for it!!

I agree, despite my little quibbles. I actually like the "hand feel" comment. I now tend to smoke mine while reading. I'm probably reading exciting stuff, puffing to fast, and heating the thing up. Maybe these should be my Jane Austen pipes. Anywho, I have 2 and have no intention of getting rid of them. They are a lovely sight. I also ordered from Bisgaard, by the way, and I think I received delivery in something like 5 days. Amazing.

Dock, the finish on the one you posted is what I was considering in the original "USA?" version. I love that Dublin bowl shape in your pic but I prefer the stem design on the original. Maybe have to use Frost's way of thinking and get both eventually (hey, always looking for someone to blame some way to rationalize PAD).

Shadrack -- they come in both filtered (9mm) or non. I have the non, which differs ever so slightly in shape than the one pictured in your post, which is the filtered version.
Thanks Trout. Yeah I really like the edged bowl of the european version Dock posted but I guess that's filter only. I've never smoked a 9mm filter pipe and was just wondering how they smoke without using the filter. My Dr. G's smoke better without a filter so maybe it's the same with these 9mm deals?

Shadrack,
For what it is worth, I never use the filters in my Savinelli filter pipes. I don't have any filter Stanwells, but I would think they are the same. I think they smoke better without the filters, in most cases I don't even use the adapter

Most Savinelli's are 6mm, while Stanwell's are 9mm. Personally, if I smoke a Stanwell sans filter, I use an adapter. Otherwise the draw is too open. The adapter works great, so don't let the notion that it's a filter pipe scare you off.

Shad, The European version pictured IS filter only. I've never used the filter or an adapter. I sorta like the wide open draw!
